gud question.. it think it's cause not all the skin gets the same amount of melanin (the stuff that makes u have a certain skin tone) some spots gets alot of melann which is why you got a birthmak.. no i dunno about moles though..

Actually, no one really knows what causes birth marks, but the cause has been recently associated with a deficiency or absence in the nerve supply to the blood vessels of the affected area.
