Is it only because they can't tax it? If it is, then can't they make brothels legal and tax them? (It's probably "not as simple as that" but tell me why.) If there are more reasons, state them please.

Just answer question, please? I don't need an opinion article from anyone.

Because we are still being governed by religion when it comes to sex. It doesn't make any sense to me that a woman can have sex 5 times a day with 5 different people and there is no law against it. the minute she charges even a dollar for it all of a sudden she will be the down fall of humanity. It is wrong. If a person can give it away then why not pay?

this may oversimplify it, but there are two counties in Nevada where prostitution is still legal. (I think its two) Clarke County (Las Vegas) is not one of them, so please don't believe it if someone says prostitution is legal in Las Vegas.
However, brothels in Nevada are taxed.. heavily. The girls report their incomes just like you and I, and they pay taxes as well. The big issue is that as a society, people tend to be offended at paying for sex. Ask any guy if he would marry someone who has had sex with 200 other guys and he will probably run away.
Another issue is diseases. There are so many diseases that you can get, (and give) during sex that its hard to keep track of them. Thats why most girls insist that their customers wear condoms. They are also checked regularly for STDs.
The spread of disease is an issue that is taken very seriously by medical professionals in these areas.
But if you are just talking about whores on the street... they will do almost anything for a dollar. They don't get regular physical checkups, they spread disease, and they are basically nasty.
And prostitution is not a vicimless crime. Don't forget the wives or their children who are waiting for their husbands to come home while he is out with a hooker.
that help?

Although there's separation of Church and State, law codes dating back to early civilizations were based on religion. U.S. laws, even today, heavily use principles from the Bible, and anything that's a sin is against the law. Since homosexuality is supposedly denounced, that's why gay marriage is illegal - religion. In Las Vegas, though, prostitution is legal, there are licenses. I'm not sure but I've heard they have STD checks to retain a license, so as to stop the spread of AIDS etc.

That law was made back when all laws were based on morality. Prostitution is considered an immoral act (Bibically speaking), and thus was made illegal. It will probably never be legalized nationally, due to that line of thought (right or wrong).

Because we live in a country of Puritan idiots, stupid bigots and intolerant hypocrits... Prostitution should be legal and pimps should be prosecuted for prostitution as it is in Europe who is much more civilized and smarter than the USA on many important issues....

Laws and legislation are a slowly evolving process. Legislation tends to reflect the morale position of past generations. For example in almost all states sodomy laws still exist and are felonies. Sodomy includes consensual sex between two same sex adults.
Most prosecutors will no longer prosecute consensual acts between adults in most all states where these laws are still on the books. While other states are started to remove these laws.
Prostitution is one of these laws that is reflective of our morale past. They are in effect as a way to protect the morale fabric of communities. Along the same lines are laws such as statutory rape, incest, etc. All acts that can occur between consenting individuals but are believed to be harmful to the communities morales. Other crimes include drugs, etc. They are all referred to as vice crimes. Meaning that they are beleived to lead to the morale decline of the community but are in fact victimless crimes.

It is illegal, because so many pimps exploit underage
girls and boys out there, also it is a contributing factor
to other crimes in the area, especially drug crimes, as
well a huge spreader of the nasties like STD's and AIDS......
