Because nobody can think for themselves. They don't read information and think about things....they just watch movies and then believe what the movie says. They are also the people that need a politician like Al Gore to clue them in to the fact that we have been polluting.

Global warming is a big deal because if it plays out the way scientists think it will we're going to lose a substantial part of the human population. Not millions dead, BILLIONS. Think wrecked ecosystems, massive and recurring crop failures, droughts that last decades, widespread food shortages, wars being fought over things like water, food and habitable living space. We will eventually adapt but there'll be a lot less of us and the world's political map won't look anything like it does today. Keep in mind that no civilization lasts forever.

Kevpet is being overly optimistic. When the run away warming starts the human race will not be able to evolve fast enough to survive. Consider the planet Venus is an example of run away global warming and we can not even build a silicone based mechanism that can survive there.

As you know the UN stands for UNITED NATIONS , that means "UNITED" ... Well, after over 600 scientist have put their intelligence and know- how in finding the real causes of the warming , it is a bit hard to contradict or to challenge their findings specially after it has taken them over 3 years of study and research to come to a conclusion , why would you an average person want to challenge their findings? do you know some thing different? or have the prove to contradict them ? ... After all they are over 600 of them, not 5 - 10 or15 , but 600 that has emphatically and with out doubt proved that we humans are responsible for the acceleration to the earth warming .... Now if you prefer to believe the few arguments that scientist controlled by the White house are dishing out to discredit the majority , well that is your prerogative !
But if I were you do some more research on the facts that have been found and you will see the truth and you won't need to challenge the UN.

Science shows clearly that global warming is real and caused by man. You can question that, but you should expect people to say you're wrong. It's like the people here who question if we actually landed on the moon. Or say that they have a perpetual motion machine. It's not scientific. I don't mean any of that as a putdown.
It's a big deal at the UN because fixing it requires the cooperation of all nations to fix, and the UN is where things like that happen.

Because if it is true (which I am not saying it is) then millions of people are going to loose thier homes, many are going to die, disease is going to spread further and faster, salt water infiltration will destroy alot of the water supply etc.
