First of all, self-esteem is in your mind, therefore, change how you think. Sit down and make a list of all the positive things about you, there should be several. Have friends who care about you help with that list. Keep that list to remind you of all your good qualities.

Second, you are facing a common problem many teens face, unable to get employment because of age and lack of experience. But, you said you volunteer, great! That is one good way to get some employment. Ask where you volunteer is there are any jobs you can do, they have seen your ability and should base their decision on that. Be confident when you ask, and ask the right person(s) too. Explain your good points; skills, knowledge, experience that applies to the job.

And finally, tell them that you will not get experience if no one will hire you, so ask them to take you on for a month so you can show your stuff. What have they got to lose? Approach a hesitant employer that way, and they will find it hard to say no. I used that approach with an employer fresh out of high school and got hired.

Good luck, you can do this!

OK... those are 2 different questions with no perfect answer. However, by underage, what do you mean? If you're old enough to work, I think the best thing to do might be to apply to be a waiter/waitress at a restaurant. The reasons I suggest this are many. First, self-esteem issues are often the result of generally being shy and perceiving yourself as somehow "less than" because you are shy. That being said, being a waiter/waitress helps you in that area without having to come up with your own "small talk." You are there to work and have things already to say and business to do with the people you're meeting. I promise you that this helps in a huge way... not only with self-esteem, but socially as well.

Second, wait jobs are pretty much always available so give yourself a larger open job pool to swim in.

Finally, experience as a waitperson can be very helpful at many points in your life. Life will not always work just how you want and you may find yourself unemployed at one point or another when you get a bit older. Once you get some wait experience, you'll never NOT be able to get a job anywhere in the country. Those skills will serve you well if you ever need them. I hope that this helps.... and remember, if you didn't have self esteem issues, you wouldn't be human. The most confident person you know has things that he/she doesn't want you to know and is less than confident about. Being self-conscious about some things is normal, especially in your teens. Remember that... it's normal.

Welcome to the real world. getting a job isnt easy, especially if you have no experience but even if you do, it still isnt. I applied to those places when i was young and i did have experience i worked from the time i was 16. its a matter of whos hiring and whose not and if the economy is like it is in my state - michigan, there really arent any jobs to get! i think your best bet would be a grocery store or a large chain like meijer or kmart. those places are always hiring. and as far as the self esteem issue, you need to focus on the good things in your life and the good things about yourself, and stop worrying about what your not, or what you cant do. hold your head high, and love yourself, your the only you there is, and be thankful that your worrying about getting a job at mickey d's and not about your house being bombed while you sleep. good luck

i think everyone has hit that same stage in their life. what you need to do is look around you and be grateful that you have what you are given. so many people take their friends, their family and possessions--their whole life!!-- for granted. as far as your job goes, it may very well be that you just arent good at interviewing. i suggest you check out some websites that have tips on how to give a great interview. employers are quick to judge and the interview you give is the only chance you will have to make a great first impression, so give it your best!

Don't let society bring you down, you have the right to live your life on this planet earth.
Don't use other people's opinions to define what you think about yourself or your potential , keep appling for jobs and you will get one. They can hire you and you will get hired if you keep trying.
