They once HAD a Volkswagen Beetle in NASCAR...really!!
It was at Talladega. Not to race, but to demonstrate how steep the banking is. They put it right next to the outside wall and gave it a slight nudge. The bug rolled over about three times before coming to rest just inside the inner line (at the bottom of the track).

VW in NASCAR might be a bit odd considering it's lack luster racing history. It's Big Brother Porsche however, now that might give the boys a run for their money.
I know VW owns Lamborgini; but Lamborgini has no racing history either despite some awesome and very powerful cars. The marraige with Lamborgini has helped VW make a higher quality vehicle; but I think it will be a long long time before we see any VW's in any major racing series. Not because they can't compete, they just don't seem interested at the moment.

They would have to do alot of work to make the Top two levels being Nextel Cup and Busch Series but in the regional series there are several classes of four cylinder cars that volkswagon can and do run in.

Jaguar in Linden 1954,Volkswagon in Langhorne ,Pa about the same time.

Sure would be nice, now all they have to do is start making cars here in America. So maybe if VW opens up a plant here and starts making cars here they will enter. Reality says no they wont because it wouldnt help sales for them at all.
