I cleaned his stomach and washed him I wasn't sure what was going on. He is such a good boy. I spread the hair on his stomach and noticed a big scratch mark. He had two swollen bubbles. I saw what I thought were bite marks, but after looking again it appears it might of been a racoon with sharp claws that got him. They looked more like puntures. A dog would not go after the stomach. Any advise, I feel for my furry friend, Has anyone else encountered a raccoon that has attacked their cat.

Yes, raccoon will attack cats and they can give them rabies. This is a very good example of why a cat is much safer and healthier as an inside cat.
If you love your pet you will keep it inside where it is safe and you can protect it. Cats are like kids and don't know what is good for them. A cat can be VERY content to living inside as long as you give it what it needs.

From your description, and if he was gone for two days, your guy has been in a cat fight. I doubt it was a raccoon - cats generally give them a wide berth. When cats fight, they roll in a ball, all tangled up and it's very common for them to have scratches/bites on their tummies and any place else on their body. It depends on who was winning. I'd bet they ARE puncture wounds - from a cat biting him.

You need to take him to a vet for antibiotics to clear up the infection from the bite (cat bites are the worst kind of bites to get because of the infections they cause). It is difficult and almost impossible to try to clear up the infection yourself. I would certainly put a hot compress on the bite marks and draw out the infection, but get him to the vet for some medicine - he'll be fine.

Also, if you don't have vet, find one that takes a common sense approach toward the abscess. Some vets want to sedate the cat to lance it and drain the infection. I've found that's not necessary at all. The medicine itself will make the bite open and drain. I've never had to have a cat sedated for an abscess.
Good luck!

OK let us do the rundown. A dog would try to get the neck. If he cant he will go for the belly. It might have been another cat. When cats fight they kick with the back paws Into the stomach and try to rip open belly's. You need to make sure you cat has all it shots. Raccoons carry rabies, your cat can become very sick. You should have it check.
good Luck.

Swollen bubbles? It doesnt matter if the cat was attacked by a racoon, a dog, or abducted by aliens for cat experimentation...It sounds like an infection. Safest be would be to get some antibiotics...at least have the cat checked by your vet. They will make the best determination for you. You are very lucky to have your cat back. I'm jealous.

Cats definitely can get rabies, from racoons. I'm just assuming you got your cat a rabies shot already, snice you allow him to go outside. Please say "Yes!"
I keep our cats in at night if I can, even if I have to wait up for them. Once they are in after dark, I do not let the female (who is the hunter) back out again until dawn. The male can go out for a few minutes in the evening sometimes. We have large racoons living around here, red foxes, opossums and occasionally a black bear or mountain lion. Racoons have really sharp teeth. I would take your kitty to the vet to have the wound checked. Does the vet have hours on Saturday?

Most likely he was in a fight with another CAT, and now has an abscess. Need to get your kitty to the vet for possible surgery (needs to be lanced and drained) and a dose of antibiotics. Cat fights are VERY common, raccoon attacks are NOT.

You should take your cat to the vet right now because you do not know and also has your cat has it shots if so then just clean the area with some proxcide and put some neosporn on it and see if it starts to clear if it dose so then he will be fine and just to ask if he is declawed than you took away his only defense against other animals

Your cat needs an examination by a vet. He probably will need to take an antibiotic and there could be a chance of rabies as well. I'm not sure if cats get rabies but it is a good thing to ask your vet when you call.

I had a cat that was always getting into scraps with turtles, raccoons, etc. In addition to cleaning the wound, I recommend taking the cat to the vet so he can get a shot of penicillin to ward off any nasty infection.
