I was thinking about calling one of my friends and ask her to dinner on valentines day. I don't want to date her, and I know she doesn't want to date me we are just good friends. Would it be awkward if I was to ask her this, or do you think she would just find it as a friendly gesture?

no, but when you call her just be like "hey, would you like to go out to a casual dinner with me, but just as friends?" or when you ask her, just emphasize the word "friends" so she doesn't think you want more than her friendship.

I don't think it would be awkward if you let her know right up front that it was a just friends sort of thing...but then again, you never know what might come of it in the end...
