My 8 year old daughter has been having abdominal pain and nausea for about 8 weeks. She is currently undergoing various tests, but her pediatrician thinks she may be completely lactose intolerant. Once ALL dairy is eliminated from her diet, how long will it take for her to stop having stomach pain, providing this is, in fact the problem?

If your doctor is right, as soon as the last dairy she ate is eliminated from her body, she will be fine. If you are seriously lactose intolerant, that's a very short time. In a normal person, it would be around 24 hours or more.

I am lactose intolerant, and for me, it only takes about 2 hours for dairy to travel through my system.

I am very concerned this has gone on for 8 weeks. I suggest you take her to another doctor, soon. Those symptoms don't sound like just lactose intolerance to me, those are symptoms of possible appendicitis (common in children).

This needs to be investigated NOW. Lactose intolerance should not last this long, usually when all is eliminated it does not take long for the person to feel better or have some improvement.

Usually you will start to see some changes after one week but give it at least two weeks to be sure. Remember, to eliminate all dairy and that means reading labels and eliminating all milk derivatives also like casein, whey etc. Good luck, my kids were lactose intolerant also and it takes time to completely eliminate everything will milk products in it.

You should notice an immediate change not only in her stomache pain as well as her moods.
Most food allergies take any where from 4 to 6 hours all the way up to three days.
