Email him a copy of your question. You expressed your feelings well.

My time in the Navy I've seen this happen a lot. I was about the same way even.

You're in a whole new world with new friends and relationships. It can be easier than you might think to feel more comfortable where you are than where you were.

It's a lot easier to go than to see someone go.

I'm not sure exactly how to answer your question as I still miss my old ship even though I am back close to my family again. I was away for 10 years.

Tell him to come home on leave if not for his sake then for his families sake. You all miss him and want to hear how he's doing. Encourage him to keep in touch with his roots as they are always there for him in any times of need, and times of need will always arise. Nobody knows him like his own family and he should cherish that.

Has your brother ever left home before?
How was he treated at home by family?
The Army may actually be an escape from his home life if his life at home wasnt appealing or comfortbale to him.
The Army tells what he needs to wear and how to act, but he gets paid for that...other than that, he is free to do what he wants when his shift is over.

I fyou know how to get a hold of your brothers unit in Alaska, you can tell the 1SGT down there that your brother is not calling the family and keeping in touch, the 1SGT will tell your brother to start calling home.
