Depends on where it is and how long you have had it. Some are bacterial and some are fungal. You can try getting some topical cream or ointment that will work with both baterial and fungal rashes and see what happens. Chances are that if you have had it for a while, you will need a steroidal cream to get rid of it. But you can't use a cream with steroids more than two weeks, then you have to go back to an over the counter anti-fungal.
Try the cream for a few days, and if there is no difference, see your doctor... or talk to a nurse.

You really need to go to the doctor about any concern. I learned this from experiance, what i thought was s simple rash from changing detergents turned out to be scabies that my hubby had picked up while in Iraq and our whole family itched like crazy and took us 3 mo to get rid of it! All because i waited to go see a doc. what a miserable way to spend 3 months let me tell you. A rash can be anything from dry skin, allergic reation, to an infection and it's better to just find out than sit there an suffer and hope it just goes away.

I would recommend talking with your doctor (even if over phone describing the type and where it is located). With my experience with rashes and hives, either neosporin or light body lotion with no scents has helped. Also, try a warm oatmeal bath, that will help relax the skin. Hope this is of some help.
