Blind faith is a product of Dependency Issues. Not wanting to take responsibility for one's thoughts, speech and actions, and therefore shifting all blame and responsibility to the object of ones faith...

For so many they base their own identity on the belief structure of a given religion. Because they link who they see themselves to be with the ideas of this religion if someone points out a flaw in the religion they see it as a personal attack.

The only solution to this is people must realize that they are not their religion any more then they are their job, or hobbies. Those things may reflect a part of you but they are not you.

Only after this is realized and embraced can we hope to see an end to this senseless violence.

Faith is not what blinds you! but who blinds you is in (2Corrinthians4:5) yet of course, that is if you truly want the answer to your question, which maybe you don't, in which case you won't bother reading your answers, so why ask?

I wish I knew. I just had correspondence with one religious type, who would much rather persist in his demonstrably errroneous views than to even look at the facts. It gives one concern as to whether there is enough rationality in the race to permit it to survive. Dawkins addresses the matter at some length [reference]. Since faith is belief in something absent evidence, or in the face of contrary evidence, it is not logical. And to abjure logic reduces one to the status of an animal, for the only defining characteristic of H. sapiens is the ability to use logic. And what could be more evil?

Faith is a delicate balance between reason and emotion. It requires guidance and self discipline. If you don't have the discipline and abandon yourself to the emotion, or if you have an abusive and predatory guide, you run the risk of sliding off into the deep end.

That is actually a good question...religion seems to be somehow 'wired' into our brains. All societies have some form of religion and worship, which suggests that it is an innate form of expression.

Yet these relgions vary greatly and of course most people are selfish and hypocritical in their interpretations of religious texts.

faith is about feelings and emotions. Those are based on our ancient and base instincts. Knowledge is where our species must head, embrace reason and logic because it is the truth, not because something just "feels" right.

Some people don't want to "think", only be told how to behave. That's how cult of personality gets started...

God made me with a brain, which I intend to use.

No we see quite clearly.

How can so many be blinded by the world?

Are you spiritually deaf?
Are you spiritually blind?
Are you spiritually dead?

If you have not assimilated from the tree of life,
you are spiritually deaf, blind, and dead?
