I dont know all of the details of your care, but it sounds like it's in poor condition. According to the Kelley Blue Book, 1989 325i in fair condition sell for $1,550 in a private transaction. I'd recommend you go to kbb.com (go to used car values), yourself, and check it out. With so many problems, it's difficult to appraise your cars value.

The definition they give fair condition is:
"Fair" condition means that the vehicle has some mechanical or cosmetic defects and needs servicing but is still in reasonable running condition. This vehicle has a clean title history, the paint, body and/or interior need work performed by a professional. The tires may need to be replaced. There may be some repairable rust damage.

If it running it is worth a possible grand if the interior is half ***. A non runner is maybe 400 hundred. Really depends on if someone needs or wants this particular model. Other than that, part it out.
The tranny could be got at a wrecker. Same for other parts.

While BMW generally makes good cars, yours needs to much work to be considered sell worthy. Just as it stands, you could get about 75.00 to 200.00 if you sold it to a salvage yard. There are still a number of people who like the BMW and are mechanically inclined that might be willing to pay as much as 800.00 for it depending on a number of varying factors. You didn't mention how much you paid for it and I am inclined to believe it was too much.

Well considering there is so much damage..You might get more money for its parts. Call Ecology or Pick a Part and ask them. They pay out cash and come pick up the car from you.

Look it up on Kelly Blue Book.

Kelley Blue Book is worthless. These days, everyone is using what they call "black book." Black book gives you whole sale price for the vehicle, which is what you would be offered on a trade in. Black book price is approximately $4,000 below what Kelley Blue Book would quote you on-line on a vehicle in fair or poor condition. From what you have told us, I would say your vehicle is only worth $1,200 on trade in or private sale.
