You can dual-boot Windows OSes on a single computer. But if you want a second OS without putting your computer to a drag, then you can get a VM(virtual machine) for the OS you want.

Is this a new idea for you?

Been doing this since 1994, with multi-boot machines, just by using http://pclinuxos.com which is a LiveCDrom of a GNU/Linux, installed as a dual boot AFTER one Microsoft XP install.

Then, there is a way to do a Vista as a third install, but too complicated for here... Vista is very anti-social! Most games and programs from XP are dead in Vista.

Yes, wipe and partition you hard drive, install Vista to the first partition, and XP to the second.
When you start your computer, you will be given the option to start with Vista or XP, if you do not pick any it will default to the newest version, or Vista.

Why would you want to do that? There isn't too awful much different between the two Os's.Your best bet is to run XP,let them work out all of the bugs with vista first, and there are many of them!!!!

You'll need to partition your HD and load one system on each. Then you'll need to start up using a system disk in order to choose the OS you want to start and utilize. I'm assuming this to see which you'll want to stay with after you compare them. It's a lot easier to have ea OS installed on two separate computers and then run your own battery of test situations.
