Hmmm, lemme think!

Well, it's one reason for congregation!?

And, you need it to get married!?!?

Then, you need it for the Christening of the child!?!?

And, you need it to bury the dead!?!?

Religion provides you with answers to your deepest stated questions about life, i.e. "why am I here?" It provides you with a spiritual being, not just a physical one, and an idea of what will happen to your spirit after death. Also, it gives you values and morals, and a motivation to improve yourself.

As a side note - never judge a religion by it's believers. For example, Islam was set down in the Qur'an by Muhammad to be a peaceful religion, but look what some of the believers have done! Islam isn't a violent cult because some of its followers interpret it incorrectly. Christianity forbids sex before marriage, yet how many "Christians" do it anyway? That doesn't make Christianity any less good - it only reflects on the spirituality of those certain Christians.
That is human error, not God's error or the religion's error.
(I know this is irrelevant, but it needs to be pointed out anyway).

I can't think of any. Religions divide, spirituality unites. Brand name religion asks us to accept a very narrow view of our world. But a spiritual person can see the big picture and accept that the best aspects of many different faiths and beliefs are of equal value.

God says : "Humility; pridelessness; nonviolence; tolerance; simplicity; approaching a bona fide spiritual master; cleanliness; steadiness; self-control; renunciation of the objects of sense gratification; absence of false ego; the perception of the evil of birth, death, old age and disease; detachment; freedom from entanglement with children, wife, home and the rest; even-mindedness amid pleasant and unpleasant events; constant and unalloyed devotion to Me; aspiring to live in a solitary place; detachment from the general mass of people; accepting the importance of self-realization; and philosophical search for the Absolute Truth—all these I declare to be knowledge, and besides this whatever there may be is ignorance."

The core of most of them seems to be concerned with considering others feelings.

If a religious person says to an atheist there is a heaven, and when they die, they find there is, the religious person can mock the atheist!
If an atheist says there is no heaven, and they die, and there is no heaven, and there is nothing, the atheist loses out on the glory!
