Ever since she was a few weeks ld, my daughter began making very strange, repititiouse foot and hand motions. She does it almost constantly but esspeccially when she is intently focused or mad about something. She is a very smart baby and WAY ahead of her time...I want to think she is just extremely developed and cant wait to be fully self sufficient but it bothhers me because no one elses baby does this. P.s. the foot movements are like she is stretching her ankles, rlling her foot around and around and pointing her toes. Her hands just open and then grip close and she wiggles her fingers repeatedly. Is this normal?

Based on what you are describing it sounds like the same hand and feet motions my son has done from about 5 mths old to the present (he will be 3 years in March). He is just excited! Around the age of 2, I started trying to get him to just say "I'm excited!", but it must be way primal cause he still does it when he sees something completely up his alley -- new and cool (ie anything Thomas the train).
In addition, my mother is a sign language interpreter and she worked with a student who had cerebral palsy, was deaf and had other disabilities. He did the same hand motions when he was excited. I say that not to make you nervous that something might be wrong, but to reinforce the idea that it must be a very basic response to excitement! Good Luck!

I agree... most likely the cause is overstimulation. Many children have these responses when they are excited because they lack the regulation skills. This sounds like it is a basic reflex, but if you are concerned that it is not a normal response, talk to your child's pediatrician.

My son does that hand motion when he is wanting comfort. He is 7 mos old as well. I would ask your Dr about it for sure though, see if you can tape it to show him if you can't describe it well.

What does her pediatrician say? I haven't seen what you described, but your pediatrician will know...make an appointment...better safe than sorry.
