What I am wondering is that Is it possible for me to get into to gameing with out knowing about programming? I have a great idea for a video game ( It would best work for PS3 , because it would really need to use that power...or at least i think) . I have written out a story and filled in most of the plot hole.
I have an idea about what it should look and feel like, but that is all I know about gaming.
Is it possible for me to bring my game to life? How would I do this? First step?

Believe it or not, a Talent Agency may be a useful first step, much like writing for a TV or Movie Proposal. Video game production companies work just like the rest of the electronic medium, and solicit new ideas from agents, much like a director or actor seeking work in a video game. (Ever hear a voice actor in a video game? Their agent is how they got the job... plain and simple.)

Even if they can't get your idea in a programmer's hands, they can have suggestions to improve your work, join the guild, or participate in seminars and workshops to develop your writing more and network with other starting individuals. Of course, the agent would hold an interest in your COMPLETE spectrum of development, so be prepared to have multiple writings and projects available in a portfolio for them to review in considering you as a client. Once you have an agent, they'll work to connect you to interested parties who need a good writer.

To be realistic, there is a higher demand for TV and Film Scripts than there is for Video Games, simply because of the demand. Don't get dismayed: this means you can revisit your original creation after doing that kind of work to develop it further in ways you might not have initially considered. Video games have a multi-dimensional plot compared to TV and Film, but the intricacies and detail needed for TV and Film Development could make your script more rich and attractive for development. Just like any craft, any practice is good practice.

Seek out an agency with Writers Guild of America, or a local in your area. Being I'm on the West Coast, I included a WGA West address in the sourcebox below.

Programing is the tough part. Your best bet is to spend the time/money/effort to produce a professional presentation (hire an artist, editor, etc.) and try to pitch it. Selling your idea/story is the most you could do.

If your not willing to do that, then its a wet dream because everyone has an idea, especially with the rise in popularity of the gaming industry in general.

1. Story lines are a part of creativity that is needed in Movies, and in gaming! There are 'non-programmers' who simply work in that field of writing the 'scripts' and scenes!

2. I see in many reviews in both gaming magazines, and in movie magazines, of emags, and printed ones, that both industries are drawing so many ideas from each other, and so many authors have both venues under their belts, that they will merge!

3. You don't know programming, YET! It is simple enough to learn in a fairly short time, but, as with anything, the learning is only the beginning of a career of study and invention!

Go to some gaming sites, and see what is discussed on their forums. Go slow, and see if your ideas are out there by others!

Mail yourself a copy, CERTIFIED, and do NOT open the envelope! That way, you have a date and time acceptable in Court. Then, you can disclose your ideas, ALWAYS with the mention of your copyright of the ideas, circa 2007!

Now, Programming is starting out, easy, in Ruby on Rails, Perl, both came out of C and C+ language.

Ruby on Rails is the easiest! They are doing very powerful stuff, and might rule in gaming in the near future! They come FREE in http://pclinuxos.com and with 5500 games and other programs, compilers (Fortran, Cobol, Pascall, and more that you might just avoid, for now, as they are scientific and Business oriented) you should look at!

Look at LinCity, FreeCIV, or the simpler ones (source code comes with them all!). Run them.

Also, check out http://transgaming.org/gamesdb for the full listing of PC games, and more info.

There is XMAME that runs, with about 55,000 ROMs out there, for the consoles... http://livecdlist.com has knoppixMAME for FREE.

PC and the Consoles cross develop games, also! And there are the BSD games ports! BSD.org and FreeSBIE (the live one!).
