Unless your little fella takes as frequent car trips as you do space shuttle trips, give the little guy a break. Scary view, not my house, where's my favorite hiding space? You call these MY toys???? IT sounds like he means alot to you. PEOPLE get stressed out by unfamiliar surroundings. Piicture yourself at a KKK Rally, that someone else brought you to. Without your prior knowledge or consent. Pretty scary..... But its only the Vet. HOLD him in your lap, like you do at HIS home, Talk to him in your usual calm voice , assure him that all is good, hold him when he wants to hide, and comfort him, all the way home and then some. HE means might the world to you, but YOU are his world. HIS happiness, HIS hope , HIS health, all lie in in your hands. DO the best you can for him . WE'RE BOTH COUNTING ON YOU.

I have a kitten that has had to make frequent trips to the vet. He would howl for 10 minutes non stop then stop. I would think then, is he ok. I would try soft music and try talking in calm tones, which never worked. I had him in the box the humane society gave me. I then got him a pet carrier. That seem to make it worse as he could see me better. I faced the opening towards me. The box had holes on top and I would stick my finger through them. The first time I had him in the carrier. He went nuts! He started biting the metal part and screaming! Freaked me out. I yelled NOOOO! and had to hit the cage. I would stick my fingers in there as much as I could while I drove to try to pet him which is more than I could when he was in the box. As we took more trips, he didn't do it as much and seem to get use to it, just an occasional meow. He would really howl just before he vomits. I think he gets car sick. He has done that a couple of times. He goes to the vet quite a bit. I have a very sick kitty. He also has had a couple of well kitty visits, thankfully. I have a second opinion vet visit tomorrow. He is 9 months old and this trip is half a mile away instead of 30 minutes. He should be ok. He also seems to be more comforted if I put the opening of the carrier against my body as I carry it in and out of the building. You might try that. That way he will feel more closer to you and there won't be that huge opening of a different enviornment looming at him. Put a towel or two in the carrier too. When I go to the vet, my kitten doesn't even want to come out of the carrier any more. On his last visit, he just sat down and watched me and only let out a couple of mews. He had to know it was ok and he wasn't going to get hurt in the carrier. Best wishes to you. You can also put a favorite toy in there to help comfort him. My kitten actually tried to play with a string if I dangled it from above while I was at stoplights. That helped too.

My cat is kind of odd, but you never know, this may work for you.
I have someone else, like my mom or boyfriend drive, and I take Yoda down to the car in the carrier, but as soon as we are in the car, before the engine is turned on, I take him out of the carrier and just put him on my lap.
He'll kneed my legs and lay down on my lap. I've never had a problem with him trying to run around the car or anything. Eventually, if you talk to him while he's lying down, he'll actually start to purr.
Good luck, every cat is different. If you don't feel that having him on your lap will be comfortable or safe, I'd recommend the carrier, but have it in the front seat with the gate facing you so that he can see you throughout the drive.

Hi! My kitty does the same thing!I put her in a kitty cage with a blanket but she still seems to yowl! SO last time that I had to take her to the vet I put some treats in her cage and she would eat them and wouldn't yowl half as much as she used to! I hope that helped! Good Luck! ( I know it's a pain)

get a cat carrier!
Tips to get him into it before you go to the vet (because unless he's really really good, he will be destructive)
1. Get him when he's sleepy so he doesn't know what's going on.
2. Wear jackets, gloves, long trousers, hats and a face protection of some sort. Then use a towel to wrap around him and be a little forceful when you stuff him in.
4. Put his favourite food / toy inside it.
3. Be prepared for anything...
Tips for getting hi out of the box at the vets (because he'll be too scared to come out when he's there).
1. Tip thebox forward a bit so he slides out.
2. Pull him out gently.
3. Leave it to the vet.
Tips to get him in the box at the vet:
1. he might go in volintarily.
2. Repeat what you did at home (first section)
Tips to get hime out:
1. He might do this volintarily.
2. Tempt him with food.
3. Do what you did at the vets.
Good Luck!

Tomorrow may too short a time but try talking to her all the time and put your hand and keep touching little one unless you are driving. Next time try taking little fella in the car a few time even you are not driving anywhere, until kitty get used to the idea. Yes a little treat is also good idea. And don't forget to talk to kitty before you take her out in the car..It works for me!
Good Luck

Both of my cats hate the car too and they make sounds that sound like death. But, I just deal with it. There's nothing you can do. Since it's winter and cold, make sure you warm up the car first before placing the cat in there (in his carrier, of course). I also face the opening of the carrier towards me so the cat can see me, and I keep the radio turned down so it doesn't irritate the cat anymore than he already is.

i have only met one kitty who does not yowl when in a car and under way......mine--but i started road trips with him when he was 5 weeks old. place kitty into a carrier that is easy to see out of. place something in there that smells like you. a lot like you. dirty sox. dirty t-shirt--something smelling strongly of you. place kitty's favorite toys into the carrier. let it stay indoors and open all nite before going to the vet. if you have feliway, pheromone for kitties, spray that into the carrier nite before and just before you place kitty inside--read directions for use. feliway is found in petco, petsmart, other pet stores. make sure carrier is large enough so kitty is comfy, not crowded.
after the vet, get a special treat for kitty so kitty does not always associate carrier with vet. also take kitty on other road trips with treat rewards for kitty during and after.
i place my kitty carrier onthe passenger seat in front so kitty sees me--and i seatbelt the carier into the seat. i talk to kitty all the way over, trying to reassure kitty the trip is ok and kitty is angry, i know, but it is all good.......place a water dish and food dish inside the car so kitty knows the car is a good place==toys, things that smell like kitty, things that smell like you-----let kitty knw it is all ok and the passenger seat is just for kitty.
prolly will still cry and whine--maybe better--good luck....enjoy kitty.

Hi,
Put a familiar blanket in his carrier, so he has that "home" smell. I also bring some treats with me, so I can give my kitty a treat after we get to the vet, which helps a little.
