Dogs tend to pick one person that they will devote themselves to more than anybody else. Willow must of picked you. It's just her way of keeping an eye on you. Golden Retrievers are like that. They like to pay attention and feel like they are needed. Golden retrievers are a breed of dog that likes a purpose in life. Like in general to fetch something, to guide blind, be a police dog, therapy dog. They just need something to do. Willow is just being a good dog and you should appreciate it for what it is which is a true genuine friend. This dog has chosen to place its bond with you. Cherish her and send the feelings back. If this bond grows strong enough this dog could save your life one day.

That's how my shelter dog was for about a week and a half. She would follow me everywhere right at my heels. Now, she's more willing to 'do her own thing' and she'll actually stay in the living room if I go down the hall to my bedroom. I think she missed having a family. She's a very social dog and I think she just needed some extra lovin' time right after I got her. I would give Lacy some time and I think she'll settle down after a little while. Golden's are very smart. I think training classes will be a great idea too!

Take your dog's behavior for what it is... she wants to be near you! Dogs are social animals. To her, you are part of the same "pack". I'll bet you are the one who feeds her and gives her water and takes her outside, too. She's no dummy. I'd also be willing to bet, that even when you aren't petting her or "playing" with her, you talk to her... admit it. She wants to be where her presence is acknowledged. She wants to be part of the family. If your kid ignores her and your bf sits at the computer, of course she is going to follow you up and down the stairs. She might miss something interesting if she doesn't. My german shepherd is alot like that. She won't even get up in the morning until I get out of the bed. Everyone else in the house can be up, but until I put my feet on the floor, she stays quiet and lays near the bed waiting until the "matriarch" starts the day. Then she follows me around, unless someone is going outside, then she wants to be there instead. You're probably the "stable" element in your household. So she follows you, because you set the pace and the agenda. (you get your kid up in the morning, put her to bed at night, turn on/off the lights, cook the meals, lock the doors at night... face it, I'll bet if you are not at home, no one else is either. She knows all this. She wants to be near you and 1) "help" you, and 2) receive all the attention she might receive just by being in your proximity. As long as she isn't whining at you incessantly or something, just be content. Sounds like she is. My dog follows me if I leave a room and as soon as she thinks I'm "settled" into a room (kitchen, bathroom, living, doesn't matter) then she lays down somewhere where she can see me, and waits until I go somewhere else, then she is right there, laying down in the "new" environment.... She has bonded to you. that's all. Enjoy the love!

My pit bull Max does the same thing to me. As I am writing this he is sitting under the computer desk watching me with those ever adoring brown eyes. That is true love. You should feel blessed. That dog gives you unconditonal love. And asks for nothing in return except your love. Feel Blessed!

it is because you feed and pay more attention to the dog than anybody else does in the house hold. you might get a dog crate and put him in it when you are real busy. make it fun to go in to the crate not a punisment. see if a dog trainer in your area will help you.
