My point is really this, if an adult should not be have sex with a minor because of their lack of sexual responsibility, why should they (as sexually irresponsible) be legally allowed to hjave sex with each other?

biologically speaking a child (18 and under)does not have the reasoning skills to know that having sexual relations can be a damaging and extremely emotional action. although many teenagers in the US are sexually active I doubt they realize the effect of what they have done until after the fact.and children under 18 are not responsible for themselves(by law anyway) Parents are responsible for a child that is under 18.

People in the country have certain inalienable rights. Even teens have these rights (actually the same as and adult) It is legal for them to consent only if they are of a certain age. Each state mandates an age in which they believe a minor child could be able to give proper consent to another. Some states it is 14 and some are 16. Which means that if a 14 year old has sex with another minor child who consents the day before their 14th birthday, charges can be brought up.

I don't believe children should be having sex with anyone but let's leave the government out of our lives as much as possible. No legal adult should have sex with a child. It's a power thing. Most states have 16 as the legal age of consent.
May God Bless you.

They can be charged with a misdemeanor charge of contributing to the delinquency of a minor. Age really isn't a factor as much as who is held accountable. A 14 year old will be charged for having sex with a 9 year old.

>>If it is illegal for people over the age of 18 to have sexual relations with a minor(under 18)<<
That is not the case in every jurisdiction.
>>than why is it not illegal for minors to have sexual relations with each other?<<
That is not the case in every jurisdiction, either.

The whole point of those laws is to protect children from being taken advantage of by adults, not to keep them from having sex.
Most adults who have sex with teenagers are not prosecuted. It usually depends on whether the parents want to press charges. The laws were originally created to protect the virginities of young girls. Now people see though that there are people who prey on children, and will pressure them into adult relationships when they are not ready for it. They are still children, and it has nothing to do with them harming themselves by having sex. It is more to keep adults from forcing their influence on them. Not all adult/teen relations are wrong. They must be looked at on a case by case basis.

It should be illegal to have any sex before marriage. You can get aids from it. The Bible says not to commit sex before marriage, and it is also called adultery. You shall not commit adultery is one of God's Holy Ten Commandments. Don't even try it. And God's punishment is deadly sickness.
