Seriously why do we have to be so uptight and humorless?
Yet Christians and Muslims mock us all the time on here.
If they think we're a buch of bloodthirsty animals why no humor em'? Their opinions will never change no matter how much you try. Anyway I DON'T CLAIM TO REPRESENT ATHEISM AND NEVER WILL. So if you don't want me on your side I'll just support Spacemonkeyism or some weird unknown religion.

Every atheist is an individual, no one atheist represents the others, and there is no "example" to be set. If someone generalizes, and says, "See? That's why people hate atheists", it's still only a generalization and it says more about the person making the statement than anything else. People don't hate atheists, some people do, some don't, and no one person could possibly be the cause. There is no "side" for you to be on, except your own. If you're on your own side, and you know yourself well enough to have formulated an approach (or non-approach) to religion that works for you, then nobody has the right to judge that, or to make any assumptions about you based on it. It's a matter of respecting yourself, not others. I respect myself whether I'm taking the high road or the low, and I suspect that you do too. Some things are so ludicrous that the only rational response is ridicule. Sure, it may be childish, but it's also fun, and it can be very effective when the intent is to point out how ludicrous it is, as you see it. Satire is rapidly becoming a lost art, yet it has existed for centuries as a form of criticism and the US Supreme Court has ruled that you can't be sued over satire, because it is by nature unbelievable and not intended to be misleading. I support a lot of things, not just atheism, and satire is one of them. Rock on, dude. Do your thing.

It's just dumb if you ask me. You live, You die, and I believe this because the Biology Book told me so!! There is not after life, you basically Rot. Christians are blinded. They believe in what a book tells them to. They believe in what some family member told them they should. Atheists or Nonbelievers may seem uptight and humorless because that is what they have been told to do. I will be happy when the day comes that everyone does what they want to in their heart, and not because a freak told them to.

Why do you think you're uptight and humorless? Doesn't seem so to me.

I'm agnostic but I'm not uptight or humorless. In fact, I think Christians are funny as hell. :) I know dozens of 'em and maybe one or two of them practice what they preach.

Does Spacemonkeyism involve worshipping Daniel Jackson (Michael Shanks or James Spader)? Cuz I could get into that....

There is a big difference between humor and disrespect. Be the bigger person and don't go to the lower level of being intolerant of others' beliefs. Jokes are one thing, but making a parody of someone's religion is just wrong.

I don't think I'm uptight and humorless. I just go with the flow and I really don't care what anyone thinks about me. You shouldn't either.

Hey Varsity...I'll join. I even have an invisible pink unicorns t-shirt.

Each and every one of us could be model citizens (and many of us are) and show more love and compassion than the zealots (not all Christians or Muslims are zealots, mind you) and they'd still condemn us. I just don't worry about it. I don't live my life for fundie or zealot approval. Let them mock. They're just showing their true colors.

I'm gonna major in English with minors in Evolution Theory and Humorology. That way I can make fun of Christians while still being grammatically correct.
