I don't know about the entire country, but in Arizona the answer is no. When my youngest child was 14, she had personal problems in school, and wanted to transfer into GED classes. They said that she could not--as the funding was only for those 16 years and over. They also said that no one under the age of 16 was allowed to take the tests.

Sure, but i think their mother should go back to school as well. Or if the kid is very intelligent, he should tutor the mother to get her GED.

Anyone can take a GED test. But you have to pass the test in order to get your GED. Your parents would have to sign for you to take the test.

I seriously doubt it, the GED is a high school equivalency test and at 12, you are not yet at high school level.

Each state has its own regulations, but usually the person has to be 17 and out of school for an extended time.
