Keflex is a different class from Amoxicillin, but the spectrum is a bit broader. In other words, it kills the same germs plus a few more.

Keflex is in a group of antibiotics called cephalosporins. They kill bacteria by preventing new bacteria from growing a cell wall. This leaves the bacteria with no defense system, causing its death. Amoxicillin is in a group called penicillins. It kills bacteria in a very similar way. They are both broad spectrum antibiotics, meaning they kill both gram positive and gram negative bacteria (some kinds of antibiotics focus on one or the other). They have very similar side effects. If you are allergic to any penicillin antibiotic, the two classes are so similar that you will likely be allergic to cephalosporins as well.

Amoxicillin is a penicillin for systemic infections and Keflex is a cephalosporn used for respiratory, GI, skin, soft tissue bone and joint infections caused by e-coli and other coliform bacteria (among a few other types of bacteria).
