My 5 yo daughter has a very red, rash, mostly in her groin and between her buttocks.?

Some of the rash in that area look like pimples. She complains that it is itchy. I have been putting zinc ointment on it. It has given her some relief, and looks like it is drying up some of the pimples, she still has the very red rash though? I have also been giving her warm baths, with no soap. I'm not sure what this is or what could have caused it. Any ideas?

ok its not an allergy from what it sounds. I'm also going to guess her skin peals there too. Its a bacteria that is extremely hard to get rid of. A form of jock it on steroids. I am 50 years old and got this condition about 2 years back. Ive tried creams and ointments with no real success. So I did the science of the situation.

First clean the infected areas with a real soap. Preferably a moisturizing lye soap. You can still buy it. Its as natural as natural can get. then after dry suave some hydrogen peroxide over the infected area and let air dry.

Now this is where it gets comical but trust me... IT WORKS!!! Go to your local store and buy Old Spice high endurance deodorant antiperspirant. Rub a coat or film of it all over infected area. That will help with itch from sweating and bacteria. You know bacteria feed off sweat and cause the rash. Within a 2 weeks it should be totally gone. It wouldn't hurt to wear loose fitting clothing for a while and no undies till she gets better. If she is a big girl then talk to your local pharmacy and ask him to order some powdered ALUM. use that topically. Especially during the summer.

Sounds like it could be an overgrowth of yeast. It can grow in any dark warm moist area. I know if may sound odd but put some monostat or canesten from a tube on it. I would hold off on the bath. Give her a quick shower untill its gone. Yeast loves moisture.If that doesnt work, then steriod cream ( a tiny amount) such as cortaid. Do not use any type of steriod for any lenght of time.Long term use has side effects.

Did you change laundry soap or fabris softner? It can also be the cause... GL

well it maybe an std due to the location and
discription of the "rash" could be laundry soap
but the only thing with that is it would most likley be be all over her and not just in the area you described ask her if it itches more or hurts
more and do the pimples go away and comeback either way keep a close eye on
problem and consult a local Doctor

OOwwweeee. I don't know where you live, but right now I'm in Louisianna, the women here swear by a product called. "Bourdeaux's Butt Paste", I swear, I'm not kidding. I was painting this ladies home and she was changing the babies diaper, she says,"Excuse me, could you please pass me the butt paste." I looked at her and said, "Do what?" She says, "Please pass me the butt paste" I looked over and sure enough there it was, I handed it to her, and said,"I'm sorry lady, I just don't know if I would rub anything on my babies hiney that had a name like "Boudreaux","Never mind the butt paste thing" I was so amazed and laughing so hard. Apparently this lady is a nurse and that is all the new mothers in Louisianna use on there children. So, I gave some to my father-in-law as a gag gift, he says its really great stuff. Personally, I'd call the pharmacy and she what the pharmacist suggest. What ever you do, your a MOMMY and you know not to let her little hiney stay wet for too long, seems to me that would burn. She could be galded or have a really bad diaper rash. You could try putting baby powder on the rash, or if she can tolerate it a medicaded powder like goldbond (but that stuff burns for a little bit but then starts to feel better) since she's young I'd go with the baby powder.

Well my niece had the same problem and the pimples on her but had popped and she had some kind of daises and put her in the hospital for a week and had surgery had 6 months old. I am not trying to scare you but if you don't take her soon then it will effect her bones from waste down and she will never be able to walk again. Does she wear dip. because the urine from it will cause that. Please I don't want this to happen to another baby rush her. I am also a nurse so believe me. Believe it or not, young girls can get a form of yeast infection. So, it could be this or just a really bad diaper rash. My niece used to get it and what cleared it up quicly was Tinactin (yes, Tinactin for your feet fungus) and hydrocortisone cream. It was recommended by my doctor and it cleared it up every time.

Two things to try: be sure her underpants are thoroughly rinsed (three times) after going through the washing machine. She could be sensitive to leftover detergent. The other is to try over-the-counter cortisone ointment, twice a day.

what kind of rash cream have you been using try this cream my 5 yr old have the same thing and i have been using this cream called desitin it is an zinc oxide it helps this what i been using on my baby are call the doctor to see if you can get her in to be seen are call the pharmacy to see what they say. i hope this helps.
