Check out www.1800goguard.com and look around to find out all the benefits. Here are some of the basics:
1. Serve 1 weekend/month and 2 weeks usually in the summer per year.
2. Get paid the whole way-from basic training to your job training to all your weekend drills.
3. GI Bill to pay college expenses.
4. State tuition programs (many are 100% tuition-free college... and no other branch has this one because its a reward for your state service!!!!)
5. PX and Commissary priveledges.
6. Space A Travel.
7.Many other state benefits like free hunting and fishing permits or tax breaks... it all depends on the state itself.

As far as the ASVAB... first and foremost... pay attention in school. The ASVAB is the only test that hasn't changed and been made easier over the years (Thats right... I said it... the education systems are making the tests easier like the SAT's instead of actually challenging the students and allowing them the choice to pass or fail based on their merits and motivation).
Also check out online resources and talk to a recruiter about specific help for the ASVAB. Also check out the ASVAB Prep Kit thats sold in bookstores... it works well!
So yes... they pay for your college while you are a member of the Guard and also pay you extra cash as far as the GI Bill while you are going. Serving your state and community in times of is also a very satisfying feeling.

I am pleased to hear your thinking about your future. Not only does it offer college training at no cost... There is one issue lots of young people never consider. Old age. Say you get into a bad car accident 10 years later. Your laid up and no job, wife left you and your down on your luck. You can go to your local Veterans Centre and get assistance and guess what else??? FREE MEDICAL FOR LIFE!!! Now isn't that worth 1 weekend a month and 2 weeks a year? Besides, you just might find military reserves to being your wisest decision to protect you and yours for years to come. Anything from future financial assistance, to medical and even free burial.

GO BE ALL YOU CAN BE!
