I have a 19week collie pup. I have a 2year old cat and she attacked the pup (right eye) tonight and her eye has been watering. The best way for me to describe it is that its like she's been poked in the eye and it was watering. It only happened 20mins ago and my partner at first said that at the outide corner of her eye it looked ***** and red but she's been jumping around and not letting it bother her, and apparently now after 20mins its looking a bit better. I phoned a 24hr vet and they advised phoning a vet's in the morning. She is still squinting her eye but can tfully open it and is jumping about not seeming to be in any pain. What should I do?

Right, I've phoned my vet and he said to leave it until monday to see whether it becomes inflamed or red looknig. He said the dog will be fine and the fact that she is very playful is a good sign. Her eye seems to still be bothering her a little but this is only from it happening last night and she's been sleeping the whole night (on my bed cos I was very concerned). To describe it, her eye is still lookign lazy. I took her out for a small walk and its very windy and rainy here and that looked like it was forcing her to use both her eyes so I'm not sure if thats a bad thing or not. She is acting normal. Is there anythign I should be doing to the eye? ie cleaning it somehow?

You did the right thing by calling the vet. It can wait until the morning. Try putting a cold wet rag over her eye if she will let you. This may help with the pain. That is about all you can do until the vet gives you some ointment tomorrow.

He'll be fine. Just keep an eye on him (no pun intended) to make sure it doesn't get worse, like an infection. There isn't much a vet can do with a scratched eye. They will give you the same advice.

If you want to pay the fee for the emergency vet..........go for it, but I think this can wait till morning. The kitty may not have scratched her actual cornea, and even if she did, it won't be infected by tomorrow morning to where she will lose the eye. Just try to get her to the vet in the morning if you can, they can use a blacklight to see if the cornea was scratched or if it's just the area around the eye, and give you some salve in either case.

Allow the eye to water and wipe with tissue. use new tissue each time you wipe or use a wash cloth and rinse in mild soap.

For the prevention of infection, I would take the wash cloth after being wrung out and dip it in water mixed with a mild shampoo for humans (A clear, clarifying shampoo, no conditioner mixed in with it). Drip the wash cloth end into the puppies eye. DO this once or twice. If their is any infection the soap might stop it in its tracks.

I would do this anyways because cats claws do have germs....

Make sure the water with the shampoo is real mild no suds in water.

Great call calling the vet right away. I would do like they said and let it go til morning. If it still is watering you may want to have it looked at just to make sure it doesn't get an infection.
