My wife and I give to St. Judes Hospital. The money goes to saving children.
Do NOT give to Compassion. They are not honest people.

There are many great possibilities. Why not pick something that has a personal meaning to you. What organizations have you been involved with in the past?
If you or someone you know has a medical condition, you can donate to research organizations.
How about organizations that help kids and teach them values, like Boy Scouts or Girl Scouts?
You can also give to religious charities that help people in need of all sorts of help.
Don't forget, you can also donate your time if you have some to spare!

I think you should find something you are passionate about... Read, chek out the newspaper, watch movies... see what is happening in your community, country or world and then not only give money but try to get involved in the charity you give to.
I am Board member in a not for profit that helps children in Kenya- especially on education and health and while a lot of people ask me why not help my own country?, I always feel for the most needy one, and Africa, from what I have read and studied (which is extensive) needs a lot.
Our not for profit is 100% volunteer, nobody gets paid a dime- including me! :( but we do it out of passion and love and it makes all the difference in the world.
In conclusion, I suggest you find something that touches your heart, check out the charity (carefully, especially how much $ goes to actual programs) and get involved as much as you can.
Or.... give to us!! :) I promise we'll make the best out of your money!
good luck!

My personal beliefs will not allow me to give to a charity per se.
I do however enjoy finding someone in need and helping. take a homeless beggar to lunch, buy a grubby kid a new coat. buy a truckload of food and feed the needy in a local park.
this way you know exactly where you money goes, and you can see the difference that it makes. you can see it on their faces.
chairty companies are only required to use a small percentage of income on the real charity, the rest goes toward "management costs" like high salaries for managers and workers. and very little actually goes to people who need it.
or if you want to be religious...
jesus said something like..
"that which you have done for the least of my brethren, you have done for me"

What are your interests? International, local, religious, non-religious? These should all be factors in your choice. I am interested in groups that help others on an international scale but who do not receive money from any government. One group that does this is Refugees International. They are an advocacy group for refugees world-wide. Since they accept no government funding, they are free to tell the world the truth about refugee situations. They are often the first to go into a refugee area, and are the last to leave-they still monitor the land mine clearence in Cambodia, for example. They find groups that can best give aid to a particular group of refugees, and when they can't find groups, they ask wealthy individuals to help-and they do! You can find out a lot more about them at the link below.

Follow your heart. Do you have a soft spot for children? Animals? There are lots of charities & there should be a website for your area to tell you which ones are good & which ones are bad. Meaning, which ones put the most money toward the actual charity & toward payroll.

God created the universe, and everything in it, it's all His regardless of what you do with your money. Find something you believe is a good cause, and do what you can to further that cause. People give money to charity to make themselves feel (better) Sometimes they actually do contribute to a worthwhile cause, unfortunately, a lot of charities are fronts for unsavory or even illegal hustlers looking for a fast buck. Choose carefully and good luck.

I would choose something close to my heart.
Whichever charity you think have the best cause such as breast cancer research foundation, family member help for Alcoholic, orpanages, etc.
Personally, I donate to the American Caner Association because my grandfather died of cancer when I was younger.
Just beware of charities that do not provide adequate amount to the causes. Do your research. Don't let your money get ripped off.

Consider the things/people you care about. If you like animals, perhaps the ASPCA, a local non-profit animal shelter, PETA, etc.
If you like children, there are orphanages, The Smile Train, Omaha Home for the Boys, St. Jude's Hospital, your local Children's Hospital, etc.
If you like the arts, there are numerous museums, orchestra halls, dance troupes, theater groups, etc. that need funding.
In general, there's the Red Cross, the American Cancer Society, the Susan B. Kommen Breast Cancer Fund, The Diabetes Foundation, The Food Depository, your local shelters, PADS, Walk for AIDS, your local church, universities, hospitals, and so many non-profit organizations that would welcome your donation, notwithstanding the multiple international charitable organizations that need monetary assistance.
It's great that you are considering various ways of sharing your blessings. BRAVO!
