What if a multi driver car won a championship, for example Mark Martin in the #01 car.
Would both drivers 'win' it or is it possible?

The only way that is possible is if the 01 were to win the Owner's Championship. The championship that you hear about all throughout the year is the driver's championship, so if the driver doesnt run the full season then that driver can't, or shouldn't, win the championship. So Martin cannot win the drivers championship, but Ginn can win the owners championship with Martin and Smith. It's very unlikely, but it can happen. It is not possible for two drivers to win the drivers championship, but it is possible for the owner to win the owners championship with multiple drivers.

The drivers themselves get points for the championship. They keep track of team owner points, but it's a separate tally. A few years ago Sterling Marlin had the points lead but an injury knocked him out for the rest of the season, it might have been McMurray that took over for him- but anyway the new driver didn't take over with Marlin's lead.

I think the points go strictly to the driver. There is a car owner category that might be affected.

Points accumulate by driver, not car...thats why you see injured drivers start their cars and sometimes get out of the ride. The driver has to start the race to accumulate the points.

Winner's points go to the driver. Manufacturers points go to the car "manufacturer". Owners points go to the car owner. Clear?
