I am in the Royal Air Force, but get yourself mixed into the local camp scene - others there will be able to support and help if you need it.
Religious? don't worry - make an appointment to see your Air Force Padre - he/she can be of a great help too.
Write blueys (aerogrammes) regularly - while i was away they are a great comfort and morale boost for your man. Try not to get too depressed sounding in them either.
Family nearby? Go and see them regularly. Make peace with whoever you don't get along with.
TOTALLY on your own? Get off to night school and get a art/music/GCSE/car maintenance/DIY/French etc course sorted and done as it keeps you occupied and gives you a new circle to mix in (and make friends).
Most of all love your man / woman and assure them of your love and respect for them, await their arrival home - most come home OK - and you will be OK too.
love and respect to you and your man (i presume)
Fellow Royal Air Force !

I was in a relatinship with someone who was in the Army, and during the time that we were together, he also went to Iraq.
I was so scared to even pick up a newpaper, but I really think tha if this is the guy for you then your relationship will see it through.
Just think that many peopl ebefpre you have done it, and many people after you will do it.
Another thing which I think is really important is for you to remember that it IS much more difficlut for him.
He wont be seeing anyone outside the army who he can sit back and have a laugh with, but he will have all the worries that while you are at home your life will not have changed so much. (Even though I know that it has.)
And with thinking about this try to make it as easy as possible for him- we can only imagine how great it must feel to get letters when you are so far awy from friends and family and a culture that you know.
The way I got through it was to try and think about how at that point it was my turn to support him, and make things easier, if that was possible. Army guys all think that they are the macho ones, but they like to hear that they are missed just as much as we do!
It is a test in your relationship adn if you are really serious abou tit you will come out the other end.

You wade through an extremely slender view of the defense force, both between the US and the united kingdom. maximum of human beings that serve, do so out of a sense of Patriotism, coupled with the actual shown actuality that they'll obtain ability practise, funds for practise, a extra effective paycheck then they could earn at a minimum salary pastime, loose housing & food, loose medical & dental care, 30 days of vacation with pay in line with three hundred and sixty 5 days (US defense force, not certain about uk) and a chance to retire after 20 years of service. also, you're making the commentary that the international may be extra effective off devoid of the defense force. that could be nice, were humanity not the most helpful predator species presently inhabiting the planet. yet, in case you nevertheless imagine the defense force may be abolished, I propose you flow and communicate with the city fathers of Troy. They abolished their defense force and their civilization quickly disappeared, a useless ringer for all different u . s . that has gotten rid of their defense force. I spent 24 years interior the military and not in any respect once became despatched to a conflict zone. hence, I not in any respect killed each person and totally ninety% of all US defense force workers have not in any respect killed, so your diatribe isn't something more effective than a fantasy, spouted by technique of a minority of one! playstation : you're saying you're sorry for being rude to defense force workers. you're nicely suitable, you're rude and also you're extremely sorry. (A sorry human being it quite is) Edit to majgross: nicely reported Sir. I salute you.

uh actually RAF is the shortened version of Royal Air Force.
and in the US, its USAF for US Air Force, though it should be "Godly Mighty Air Force"
after all we are the most powerful air force in the world.
