I have been getting headaches on one side of my head and kinda like pressure. When I open my mouth I can feel like a grinding sound on that same side. My ear hurts on that side as well. Could this be TMJ or something else? Is it possible to have it only on one side?

Yes, this can be TMJ. If there is popping or cracking when you open your mouth, that can be corrected by sticking your finger in your ear and pushing forward while you open and close your jaw, then you can assume it is TMJ. The joints are so close to your ear that it can cause pain in the ear, headaches are common also. Yes it is possible to only have it on one side. Mine doesn't bother me all too often, but when it does it is when I am yawning too big. It will pop out of place on the left side and get stuck open even. OUCH!! Take ibuprofen for the pain. Treat it as though you have arthritis, only in your face. I hope it feels better soon.

Yes I have TMJ (or TMD as it is really called) on only 1 side of my mouth. I had 5 wisdom teeth (had a supernumery tooth) taken out and 1 month later developed TMD. I couldnt open my mouth even wide enough to eat a sandwich. I rubbed it and took advil and eventually i was able to open my mouth enough to eat normally but i cant open as wide as i used to. You just have to learn to live with it.
Dentists have only recommended to me that i never chew gum again, dont lean on my chin/jaw, massage my tmj (that is the name of the joint) whenever i can, and use a hot or cold pack to help loosen the joint.

I get major pain on the joint, clicking when opening my mouth. Sometimes it even Pops really loud, ears ringing, sometimes it sounds like I have fluid in my ears. Headaches from my jaw upwards to the temple. An xray showed no disc between the joint, so I have bone on bone in the joint. The disc is compacted no surgery can fix it. Physical therapy helps. See ENT specialist.
