This is a messy recipe but it doesn't take a whole lot of ingredients. You'll need cooking oil, though, because you are going to deep fry them. Put some bread crumbs on 1 dinner, plate, flour on 1 dinner plate, and 1 or 2 eggs in a medium sized bowl. Add just a bit of water and with a fork whip up the eggs. You may want to add a little salt and pepper to the flour. Dip 1 oyster at a time into the flour, then the egg, and then the bread crumbs. Set them in a single layer on another plate. Keep repeating the process until all the oysters are breaded. Your fingers will become coated, too, so you may want to use one hand for the flour and egg and the other one for the bread crumbs. While you are doing that, carefully and watchfully, be heating the oil in a deep fryer or deep pot on the stove to 350 degrees. You'll need a cooking thermometer if you are using the stove. Carefully drop 1 or 2 oysters into the oil and fry just 2 or so minutes. Drain on paper towels. Serve with cocktail sauce made of ketchup and a bit of horseradish.

My mom makes an oyster soup by heating up half and half and adding the oysters and cooking the oysters for just a few minutes. Season with salt and pepper. You could add a little heavy cream to the half and half.

Oysters get rubbery if you cook them very long. They just need to be heated through.

Since I made up this recipe, I don't really have specific amounts for this, but I'd say about 1/4 to 1/2 tsp. of the toppings depending on the size of the oyster. Our local oysters are not huge...mostly medium..they work best.

Open oyster, remove top half of the shell, cut the oyster loose from the bottom (you need oysters that will sit on the grill without spilling over). I normally just do a large tray of these and then top. Okay, here goes..
LIGHTLY sprinkle with garlic salt, squeeze a few drops of lemon juice over them. Top with FINELY minced onion, a small amount of real butter, crumbled bacon that has been cooked crisp(must use the REAL thing..no canned/bottled stuff)and
then cover with a piece of sliced American cheese. You want the cheese to almost cover the oyster. Place oysters on the grill, cover, and cook until oyster is done. These are absolutely delicious! They are very romantic on a tabletop grill.

This will do the trick:
Scalloped Oysters

INGREDIENTS:
1 pint oysters
2 cups coarsely crumbled cracker crumbs
1/2 cup butter, melted
3/4 cup half-and-half
1/4 cup oyster liquid
1/2 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
1/2 teaspoon salt

PREPARATION:
Drain oysters, reserving 1/4 cup of the liquid. Combine cracker crumbs with melted butter. Layer 1/3 of the crumbs in a greased casserole; cover with 1/2 of the oysters. Sprinkle with pepper and layer with another 1/3 of crumbs.

Cover with remaining oysters.
Combine oyster liquid and half-and-half, salt, and Worcestershire sauce. Pour over oysters then top with remaining 1/3 of cracker crumbs.

Bake at 350° for 35 to 45 minutes, until lightly browned and bubbly.

pat the oyster dry with paper towel, put in flower and shake off excess, dipp in beatten egg, then move them to your choice of bread crumbs, cornflake crumbs, or cornmeal (season whichever with salt and pepper and a little garlic powder), then fry in a hot pan with a little oil untill golden brown, serve with cocktail sauce (or put some celantro and minced garlic in a food processor, add some mayo and salt and pepper and a little olive oil, this is a great dipping sauce). Yummy!

Why make anything with them? They're nasty!! But you really don't have to do anything, just serve them raw. Ugh, yuk!! Sorry, but I don't like oysters!!
