You respect any individual's views so long as they aren't illegal or immoral. Some beliefs or interests shouldn't be tolerated, and most people know right from wrong when they incounter it. It may come as a shock to the politically correct portion of the planet, but not everyone should be respected.

Some people are simply evil and should be openly opposed. I don't know about you, but almost no one would be tolerant of say... Jeffery Dalmer's life style. Jeff gave even homosexuals, (a group he claimed to belong to) reason to be intolerant. Same goes for the far right ultra-conservative portion of the Republican party. Those guys consider other people no different than say cattle or sugar beets. Just another exploitable resource. It's the stuff science fiction horror flicks are made of, and these guys are running our government.

If your other is significant, deal with the difference of opinion and move on to something mutually agreeable. Nobody agrees 100% of the time with anyone.

My significant other is more significant than the others that she doesn't tolerate.

When I find her to be wrong about something, I'll just tell her the other point of view and leave it at that. If she still thinks she's right, she just might be, and I'd rather be on her good side.

As far as my family is concerned, unity is extremely important, and I kiss the ground and thank all of my lucky stars that she doesn't point out all of my flaws.

Ask him/her to kindly refrain from putting down others in your presence. If he/she loves you they will honor your wishes. If not, do you really believe the person is "significant"?

You can't change other people but you don't have to listen to their intolerance either.
