for exes in past relationships? Not that it's a deal breaker but just to figure out if he's romantic on VDay, cheap or generous for BDays, Christmas, etc.?

Under those conditions, yes, it would be wrong. You'll be pre-judging him by past performance. Unfair under any condition. Just be patient. If he doesn't perform, dump him. But give him the chance to do you right.

usally bringing up ex's is not always a good idea, and you don't want to be compared to someone else because everyone has different taste. Just be honest and let him know or throw hints on what you like. For example for valentine's day mention just before the day say "I love candy, or it would be nice to get some roses,no ones ever gave me flowers before. That usally works because then he wants to feel like the special person in your life by doing that. And if he doesn't pick up on the hint, just come out and ask him are we going to be doing anything for valentine's day. Keeping the thought there pretty much makes him not forget to get you something, and if he does then you'll know from what he gets you the answer to the other questions, if he is cheap or not.Good luck

If you have been out with him more than 3 times, then you can start to ask any questions you want. However, as a guy, if you started 'pumping' me for information, I would get very nervous and begin to re-evaluate the relationship. Why not wait until next week and see what happens.

That's ridiculous. If you like this guy, what does that matter? As you spend more time together, holidays, etc... You'll find out if he is romantic or not.
Many men don't comprehend nor daydream "romance" like we females do.
Nevertheless, I wouldn't even consider dating a person with such a shallow character as wanting to know what their gift was worth.

It's not necessary. That's just rude I think. You'll give him the idea that gifts are vital in your realtionship. Just wait to get to know him so that you'll find out what he's really like. you'll learn soon enough. (By Wednesday:)

Don't ask him that specifically. Ask him in a roundabout way...

"What do you think of Valentines Day?"

He'll answer that he likes it or doesn't like it. If he doesn't explain why, then ask. You can find out alot about how his previous V-Days have gone and thereby find out what kind of Valentines Day-er he is!

He may see that as an attempt on your part to check out his past relationships and it may back fire in your face. Get him something based on YOUR relationship with him.
