Pit Bulls aren't DANGEROUS! PEOPLE ARE DANGEROUS!!! Imagine the uproar people would be in if we decided to euthanize the PEOPLE who breed these dogs for fighting, and not the dogs themselves? The dogs are doing what they were taught, by cruel evil people, yet the first reaction of people is to kill the dogs. Its sick, and wrong.

I don't understand your statement. In one hand your statement reads pit bulls are DANGEROUS. Then in the other you seem to defend them. You are right in saying all dogs can be dangerous. In fact anything with teeth and claws can be. Any dog that is trained to hurt other animals is dangerous. Let me also say that the thinking of the average person helps to make this a bigger problem. Most people believe that drug dealers and gang bangers are the reason these dogs are so dangerous. Though it is true many drug dealers and such do train these dogs to be killers. A great many (so called) regular people help to make them enemy #1. When people hear drug dealers, gangs they miss the point. They don't understand that it's the people in general that make dogs of any kind killers. They can't see that their neighbor that beats their dog and forces the dog to guard the home by force. Is also a problem. I'm just saying we should stop saying drugs and gangs make our man's best friend a man eater. It's just dumb PEOPLE that need to feel superior to something. Stupid PEOPLE that want to make a dollar off the lives of another. That is what hurts the reputation of the pit bull or any dog. Just one more fact. Most of the dogs that harm or kill are not even full or pure breed pit bulls.

Last month a news program on TV interviewed a young man who owns pit bulls, & has raised them responsibly & to be gentle. He was, however, being interviewed because he had rescued someone (I think a child) wo was being attacked by a stray pit bull, probably one that had no socialization with people or other animals, it may have even been kept tied, which makes any dog more frustrated & more easily irritated. Dogs can be developed to be great companions & helpers, or neglected & /or beaten to become dangers to society. It's up to the people in their lives. I like the way this sums it up:

Pits are not dangrous animals. Yes, they are more agressive than other breeds such as your lab. But the fact still remains that they are just one thing ANIMALS!! All animals have there own quarks, that is like saying all dalmations are deaf... The reason that a lot of pits now days are agressive is though breeding... if you grew up in a harsh house, you would naturaly raise your childeren the same thinking it was normal. You can essentaly "breed" the agression out of them. It will take a few generations. I have a friend who owns a pit and that dog is the sweetest thing on four legs...if my friend holds a dinner plate or anything else small and other wise harmless and says "stoney...its gona get you" the pit would go and hide... no need to kill these beautiful and misunderstood dogs jsut because some stupid people decided to use the animal for wrong and cripple the breed dose not mean you have to destory all of them. thats like saying kill all the black people in the U.S just because they fill 70% of the prision population (dont take offence... but its true and i am not racist, i love all skin tones) Pits are NOT dangrous.. all dogs have the ability to kill and at least one of every large breed has.

Pit Bulls are a naturally aggressive breed that will turn IF they are not given proper attention and training.
I think they are a dangerous breed IF they are left in the wrong hands.
There is NOTHING inherently wrong with Pitt Bulls though. They are unfortunately more at the mercy of prick owners than most other breeds.

first of all let me start by saying that EVERYONE on here that is that negative and cruel to say that ALL pits and pit mixes should be euthinized has severe mental and social problems. If you have had experences that were negative with them, do not base that on all of the breed.
I have had NUMEROUS pit and pit mixes, all of them pound dogs, and all of them were constantly around my children. I had even adopted ones that were said to not be good around kids, because I could tell if they would be or not, and guess what? They were perfect around kids, maybe too bouncy, and would knock kids around, but not vicious or aggressive!!
You cannot take a whole breed and want to exterminate it because of a few irresponsible people have taken the natural tendencies of a certain breed and exaggerated them to killer levels!! I have been working with a groomer now for over 16 yrs and have never been bitten by any large dogs...always by the smaller breeds, but do I want to kill them all? Is that really the answer? I would rather see PEOPLE pay for what they've done to these beautiful creatures...What about Cane Corsos? Dobies? Akitas? And not to mention that one of the most popular breed of dogs has the highest bite rate per capita...the golden retriever....anyone know why?? It's called inbreeding people, and as everyone knows.....in-breeding causes neurological and psychological problems all around...but we don't read about those bites much do we.....because like everything else in life...drama sells, and a golden biting the face off of a 4 yr old would'nt sound as intimidating as a pit doing it... now would it??

Breeding and improper handling of these dogs is the problem. I remember when they wanted to bad Doberman Pincers. I was watching a TV show about some of the dogs that were refered to as personal protection dogs. There was about 10 of them listed, one of them being the pit, there was also the rotti and the shepherd just to name a few. The one thing that was agreed on with all the types of breeds were that they were not for the novice person. They needed to be handled by someone very fimilar with the breed and had the ability to be able to train them. I think the owners should be held responsible for the actions of their pets because I think 90 percent of the time its the owners stupidity because they really don't know how to train and what the breed is all about.
I have a dog, but shes a beagle and I didn't realize what is involved with the training. Dogs don't teach themselves , people teach them.

it all depends on a person's opinion and personality. for example, i read in the news, a mother left her young son and pit bull puppy in the house alone together when she went out. the pit bull started to chew and maul the child's foot. but the child had been paralyzed from his hip downwards, so he didn't realized he had been bitten until he looked down. the child's foot had to get amputated and the dog was destroyed.
for some people they might have thought it was right for the dog to be destroyed because of its vicious personality.
for others, they might think that the dog was just trying to play around and get a response from the child.
Anyways, all dogs can get vicious, so pit bulls shouldn't be discriminated so much.

the danger is in the people who get a hold of them. they have turned a good breed into exactly what you said. i've seen people with very good intentions screw up because they just don't know what they are getting in to.
i wish i knew how to stop it. but i don't. bans are not the answer. i've seen bad breeders falsify papers. so the purchasers of these puppies don't know the REAL bloodline. i've seen inbreeding so bad, that they don't even look like pits any more.
i agree with you to punish the responsible human. but the penalties aren't severe enough. and the freaking drug dealers and ghetto *** wipes can't even take care of themselves much less an animal in the right way. they have no respect for life. human or dog. if we get these guys off the streets for what's really going on, they wouldn't need a pit bull to protect their stash, or to use in a fighting ring to make money. gee, they may have to go out and get a REAL job. or better yet, go sit in a prison for a while and deal with a real pit bull. like when Big Bubba wants to make them his girlfriend!!!

In response to those people posting stuff like "Look all your rhetoric is nice and all but its total BS [...] No matter how well trained or nice a dog is, they can all turn. And Pits can and do kill! Outlaw them all!!!!":
Yeah right...like Fluffykins the Pomeranian can turn and kill someone. Pit bulls, and other large dogs that were bred to hunt and/or kill are dangerous if owners don't know how to take care of them. Owners and dogs alike need proper training to make sure that they aren't dangerous, and owners need to take some responsibility and train and care for their pets so they don't get out of hand.

With the right training and care they are NOT dangerous. A person can take any dog and make it a killer fighting dog. Why has it taken so long for people to realize that they are not dangerous.
