it is never too late to have contact. like you said, you believe your life turned out for the better because of it. your mom gave you a better life. you should let her into your life a much as you can. you have missed 20 years of it and she has missed almost the same with you. that is a long time. you will be happy if you do this. i am sure that you two will get along just fine. let your mom know that she made the right decision. she needs to hear this from you. so many parents that give up their children for adoption do not have the chance to hear their children say "you made the right decision" and "thank you for giving me a better life." give your mom the chance to feel great about what she did and cherish your time together. you have a lot of catching up to do. i truly hope this works out for you. good luck.

yes contact her but don't expect all sweetness and light-now i am going to be hard line w/ you; if she is the type of person who STILL has lots of baggage [$ debt. alcohol, drugs, no job, men trouble, or manic depression, etc.] forget it-does she move from apt. to apt.? is she a gossip or back -stabber, does she have a boy friend who is too 'friendly' with you? or other kids who want to borrow $ from you? think of it from all angles-if she has constant troubles;don't get involved, she will only bring you down w/her. Some people no matter how old they get are always needy and it gets old after awhile, YOU are young and you need good role models, for your future. TAKE A LOOK AT HER FRIENDS, SHE WILL MOST LIKELY BE LIKE THEM. Then again, she may be stable, well adjusted and sensible, good luck.

no relationship is set in stone.
you could try talking to her. ask her all the questions you always wondered about. if she isn't the kind of person you want to be associated with then distance yourself from her like you would any other person.
