because greedy investors and real estate speculators have screwed us over big time. your best bet is looking for an 'ohana near Manoa, Palolo, Mo'ili'ili, and Ka'imuki. Good luck.

Because Hawaii is just an island and so it has very limited lands and resources and so limited housing too. Because housing is limited and everyone is looking for it, so that can make it expensive... The housing market has always been quite expensive there. I don't know what's the reason. Maybe it's because many foreigners buying properties there and that increase the prices but they never start to construct new housing much and so the prices never go down or something...

Taxes, high property values, limited land area, large percentage of people needing rentals with a smaller percentage of available rentals, no other options for affordable housing so it's either 'put up with it and pay' or 'tough rocks go live on the street/beach' (and living here, you can't just easily pick up and move to another state especially if you're living paycheck-to-paycheck, so many people are stuck/forced to make-do even if it means working 3 jobs). Lots of reasons.

Food, rent, utilities, practically everything will drain you financially to the raw bone, even if you are the sort to be very tight with money.

Try renting a room in Chinatown. Also on King street and Pua lane is a single room occcupancy hotel with a private room and bath that is reasonable. On Pua Lane is a place that rents by the week with a private bedroom and shared kitchen and bath. When I lived in Honolulu I had a furnished studio all utilitys paid including basic cable, I had to pay for the phone, at a cost of $800.00 a month in the Salt Lake area. you might also try the Makaha / Maili area for the lowest rental apartments.

because the others have reported for $400 you'll purely get a room. residences commence at $800-$1000. you'll prefer to artwork 2 or 3 area-time jobs. Hawaii isn't a cheap position to stay.

Everything there is expensive. Unless you want a pinapple, it has to be imported from somewhere. It all flows down and hits everyone. Food, transportation, enjoyment are all more costly in Hawaii. But boy what a place to spend it.

Blame that pesky law of supply and demand. Everyone wants to live in Hawaii. The weather is great, you can surf during your lunch hour and the people are beautiful. Single home prices and condominium prices are astronomical thanks to speculators. Rentals are in short supply

On Oahu, try looking in Waikiki, Waipahu, Kalihi and Chinatown. And in the rural areas.

because everything they will supply you with is supported by MAINLAND. which Hawaii pays extra for. I would suggest you NOT live in Hawaii since the lifestyle is WHACK. you should look for a place in the Mainland where you will get paid a better salary for a better looking place that will be affordable for you.
