a lot of people are misinformed about pit bulls. They are not bred to be fighting dogs. The orginal orgin of pit bulls was to fight bulls. They were not bred to fight each other or be aggressive towards humans. They are protective of their owners but if they are raised right they will never attack anyone. People make the dogs mean by making them fight of being really rough with them. Its the owners fault for making the dogs mean. Without proper training ANY dog will be mean. Ive been bitten more times by my parents 7 lb prom than my dog. She has never even attempted to show her teeth at anyone (except this one person that used to try to hit her-one of our old roommates- that isnt anymore) But seriously, you have to have the time and paience to handle a pit or just get a less powerful dog. They need lots of love, affection and socialization.

I didn't read all the answers here because I am sure they all say the same thing. It is not the breed, it is the owners.

A Pit Bull just bit your mother's baby? And you are saying the breed is not dangerous? Do you think the baby that was bitten feels that way too?! How do the parents of the baby feel? They still love the dog and they take the blame for being bad dog owners and making the dog bite their baby?! Is the baby in pain with the bite? Will the baby have physical scars, or even worse, psychological scars?

Is the dog still alive?

"THE WIND" compares a Pit Bull with the responsibility of owning a gun. Guns accidentally go off and kill people and so do Pit Bulls. You could wake up in the middle of the night being attacked and mauled by your own Pit Bull. This breed is very unpredictable. DO NOT blame the owners. All of you think of the bad people that use them for fighting. Those people do not have them for pets. They use them to make money.

There are millions of sad, sad stories out there where the Pit had a wonderful, loving home and out of no where attacked and killed a family member or friend. The breed has got to be stopped.

Pit Bulls are very powerful creatures. They were bred by man for just that, power. It all depends on how it is raised and trained. You treat the dog with respect and trust, you'll get a pet that will be a loved part of the family. If you don't, you'll get an angry, mean, powerful dog that will do what it was created to do. Attack. If you've ever looked at a Pit's jaw, it's designed to kill. There's no doubt about it. I have a 12 year old Pit Bull. I've raised him from a pup. He's the sweetest dog in the world, he'd never hurt anything. I trust him more than I trust most people. But that's because he's loved and respected. Any dog is like a gun, know how to responsibly take care of it, you're perfectly safe. But watch out if your on the wrong end of one. I love my Pit Bull and work with others of the same breed that need to be trained and exposed to humans to be good pets.

I know that not every one will agree with me and as far as I'm concerned I don't care. These dogs are dangerous, many people have been bitten. Mostly children have been bitten in the face and have had to have numerous stitches.

The trauma that children go through is terrible, the experience will surely last them a life time. The owners of these dogs can and usually do face numerous fines and fees, then they must pay for all the damages that their dog or dogs have done.

Then there is the what if, as in.......What if the dog kills a human being (small Child) imagine for a moment what will happen after some thing like that. The owner of the dog will in fact be working for the people who's child was murdered by the dog. In other words they would be sued by the parents of the child and they will get millions from the dog's owner. They would be paying for the rest of their lives.

Is a dog such as that worth owning knowing facts such as these.

certain pit bulls are risky ... there have been bred to have canines aggression and that has no longer been bred out of them and is a common and commonplace breed trait to this present day (certain, the marvelous specimens from respected breeders are bred to be canines aggressive - sarcasm no matter if it is lost on the easy) ... which makes them one hundred% diverse from different puppy canines ... and the fools known to be attracted to those kinds of canines have bred them and bred them so as that now human aggression is growing to be a norm too ... once you've any small pets, you're truly in probability from those guns ... it has no longer some thing do to with how they are raised, it is genetics, it is the reason you've pits that are effective for years and then snap and kill ... any breed would properly be chew or attack yet i ask your self each and each and every of the persons declaring they are basically known canines if given the decision of being attacked through a chihuahua or a pit bull, i'm fairly particular a chihuahua attack is maximum mind-blowing ... so do not enable the simpleton supporters allow you to understand in the different case, those are risky canines it is the reason they are being banned further and extra ...

There is a reason so many people are maimed and killed by pitts. Pitts are bred fighting dogs. Some bloodlines are better than others. I've found that a timid, skiddish puppy will grow up to be the one that bites.

Pitt bulls are mean when people train them to be mean. My boyfriend and I each own a female Pitt bull they are sisters and they aren't mean at all. They are really big babies. They sound mean when they bark but wants there used to peoples smell they rub up against us like cats. They just want attention.

You know they aren't? Are you crazy. Yes they are. That's why they are on the animal list. All animals can be dangerous when not trained properly. Even the trained ones will eat people. They like small people best because there meat is tender and they smell good.

Pitt bulls, like all dogs, can be dangerous. It just depends on breeding and training. A vicious dog, regardless of its breed, is a sign of a bad owner...not a bad dog.

One bit your Mom's baby, then why are you even asking this question? People may say "No, my dog would NEVER bite, but guess what? Some of them turn, and then it's too late.
