Who went through Republic, HSBC, Santa Barbara, or Chase bank to get there refund this year? If you went through a bank through your tax preparer is the IRS holding your money? IF so which bank did you go through that this happened. I just want a vote of the people that this has happened to. I am a tax preparer and I went through Republic Bank and now they are demanding there money back from my RAL that I got because the IRS has not funded it yet. I just want to know so I can dedice what to do about all of my customers that are going to get the same letter that I just got. Has any of the other banks besides Republic demanded there RAL or PERC money back? If so which ones. I have switched over to HSBC Bank as of yesterday to do the rest of my returns.

Yet again another reason to not screw around with RALs! Looks like it's not just the customer that's getting ripped off now! ;)

I work for a company that uses HSBC/Household/Santa Barbara for their loan products. A couple of days ago, we were informed that the bank sent this letter by accident. Apparently, they weren't meant to go out. They are sending "Oops" letters out to each customer here soon. As long as you or your clients don't owe any back federal taxes, the IRS should release their refunds on time. Also, the bank is allowing a three week grace period after February 19th, as long as they can see that the clients file their return before the 19th, your clients will be ok.
