Near Alpena, Michigan, there was a military aircraft that went down in the 1970's. I am trying to locate exactly where it went down.

Anyone know?

Supposely, there was a path cleared to locate the plane, and attempt a rescue. but looking at sattelite imagery, there does seem to be a path, one from Nicholson Hill road across to Wolf Creek. I assume the plane crashed somewhere in there? ive gone to explore, but it was just to swampy. i know the alpena news covered the story, more as a anniversary, and a tribute to the victims, but when i search their archives online, i dont get a match.

i would say call the nearest air base, which would probably be battle creek air national gaurd base. ask them about what you want and they should be able to either direct you to right person or where you can get information.

Yes Battle Creek ANGB is your best bet, as other bases that were open in Michigan have been closed for almost 15 years.
The office you need is the "Wing Historian", or possibly "Group Historian".
Realize many of these folks have other jobs and lives. CLEARLY explain what you need, and be specific. Questions like, "I need everything you know about..." are not likely to be taken seriously.
If you are polite, and have specific questions, I'm sure they'll be happy to assist you.
