My two and a half year old daughter has recently begun blinking her eyes about 3 weeks ago. We noticed that it was involuntary and thought that she might not be getting enough sleep but that is not the case. She blinks about 3-4 times every 5 min or so and its not normal blinking as the blink comes with an effort and the face also twiches a little.. The doctor says it could be allergy and gave some eye drops which didn't help - we are surely going back to the doc but did any of you face a situation like this and what did you do.. We are worried as the blinking/twitching has been increasing.. Pls advise, Thanks

Well first off, all blinking is involuntary. If it is constant, then maybe she is having visual problems and can not see properly and might need glasses. Or it could simply be something in her eye that is an irritant.

Take her to a child's optometrist so he can have a look. But keep a small ideal open because it could be a neurological problem that is affecting her vision/eyes.

Schedule a doctor's appointment and see what he/she has to say. I doubt it is an allergy, there most likely would have been eye reddening or skin break out or something mosre noticeable like that. It could also just be that her face muscles are tired or maybe under developed. Check her sleeping at nights and see if she's making it ok through the night.

Sounds like it's not an eye problem but instead a neurology problem since it's her whole face. Take her to her pediatrician, and get his opinion and a referral. Don't get scared though because it may just turn out that this is her new trick, or game. Better safe than sorry!

Could it be stress?? Trying to potty train her? Change in her life?? I babysat a little girl and her mom tried to potty train her too soon and she was doing a weird blinking thing. The mom stopped and so did the blinking.
