I am a working mom of seven, the two eldest are away at school so we have five living at home-14,12,5,3&18months. All the kids are in bed by nine fifteen and I turn my 14yr old's light out at 9.45pm. He is always complaining that his bed time is too early but generally my husband and I are in bed by 10 or 10.30pm, I tell him I like to shut the whole house down before I go to bed. Aside from this he is a kid who really needs his sleep.
Both my 12&14yr old say its weird we go to bed so early and cliam it is just for sex(which makes me cringe although it is partly true). I am a working mom&he stays at home so we dont tend to get too much time to ourselves during the day.Is it weird that we are in bed this early?I am now pregnant with triplets so I really only go to bed to sleep as I am exhausted but in general, is it strange to want to go to bed with your husband so early. We are up at 6 and its go go go all day.How can I stop my kids' thinking of it the way they do?

Apologies if I was unclear....when I say he stays at home I mean my husband is a stay at home dad,so we both have our hands full all day.

We always are on the way to bed after the news.10:30 lights out then its bath and bed.Set alarm and head hits the pillow usually by 11:00 pm.
My kids did not like it either. So one day I said fine you can stay up as long as you want on these conditions .You will be up and out of bed and dressed without complaining by 6 AM. OR I will water and ice you down at 6:01 AM. You will then wash and dry all bedding . if you whine complain gripe or get mad after the third time I must wake you up like this you will then find out how terrible I can truly be.
I never had to show any of my kids how awful I could become.

When they have school I'd say that is just the right time. Maybe in the summer or the weekends they could stay up a little longer. I teach 6-8th grade and the students usually go to bed around 10 some later (about 1:00). The ones that don't have a set bedtime are very tired during the day, and are not learning to their full potential. I say stick to the routine, but maybe have occasional bends for the 12 and 14 yr old.

Depends what time you work. When I have to be up at 5:30, 6... I was in bed by 9:00 or 10 and I wasn't pregnant. On my tired days I played catch up and went to bed at 7 or 8, but only once every week or two... I need 8-9 hours of sleep and once a week a good 10-11 hour sleep

Don't cringe because you want time alone with your husband, and don't have to defend it.
The older kids will be going out and going home at 10 or so soon...get used to it. They likely need to be able to stay up...BUT that comes with responsibility. THEY turn off lights, TV, be sure dishes are done and put away and no friends after ___pm.
PLUS, the younger kids must sleep, and they need to make the house quiet. Perhaps that means no TV or TV at a low level. They can read.
A 14 year old and perhaps the 12 should be able to handle that. They are old enogh to baby sit.
I never made bedtime a criminal sentence. My kids just knew that had to be quiet and whether I went to bed at 8pm or 12 pm was my choice and theirs, when they were teens. Too tied for school was never an option and meant they were too sick to go out the next night. It was always self correcting.

No I think that is a bad bedtime for parents with kids that age. I think your 14 year old and 12 year old are good till about 10ish You do not need to tuck them in so I think you can go to bed when you wan to after your two little ones are asleep! I have a 3 month old so I go to bed around 8, as I have to get up with him 3 times a night and then go to work for 7:30. I need sleep. I do stay up till about 11ish on Friday nights and Sat night though

even as they have organization i might want to say this is basically the excellent time. perchance interior the summertime or the weekends they could keep up quite longer. I coach 6-eighth grade and the scholars frequently pass to mattress round 10 some later (about a million:00). those that shouldn't have a collection bedtime are very wiped out interior the approach the day, and do not look sorting out to their finished information. I say keep on with the events, in spite of the undeniable fact that perchance have occasional bends for the 12 and 14 year historic.

I am a working mother of four. Their ages are 11,10, 9, and 6. I like them to be in bed and asleep by 9:00. Myself and my 2 youngest get up at 5 am. I prefer to be in bed by 10:00. All I can say is keep up the good work and congrats.

I go to bed as early I as I can. If I'm not asleep by 10:30, then I'm not getting enough rest. And I'm not pregnant or working and only have two children. Most of the mothers I know go to sleep between 9 and 11.

I guess you can't change they way the feel, but you do make the house rules and they sound reasonable to me. We go to bed at 11:15, right after all the top news stories, but my husband doesn't have to get up for work until after 8 and I stay home so I also get up at 8.

I would love to be able to crawl into bed at that time but for some reason it just never happens.... remember that you are the parent and you don't need to explain to you children why you do what you do... let them think what they like you are setting a good example with wanting to be together... wow 10 children
My 11 yr old is in bed at 8 and lights of at 8.30 Sun to Thurs nights... its important for children to get enough sleep. Weekends are a little later but still not to late... Parents do need their own adult time to keep things intact... keep up the good work...
