I've owned dogs for most of my life but there was almost a 10 yr period when I did not have at least one because we rented and it was too hard to find a place that would allow pets.
I could never put my finger on it but I just was'nt happy no matter what I did.It was like there was something missing in my life all the time.
We finally bought this house and within 2 months bought our first german shepherd and that feeling went away so for me yes I need a dog in my life.

Hi,,, if you are talking about companionship... no you dont have to have a dog..
But,, if you are talking about protection.... I tell everyone I know ,, the best line of defense in the home is a dog.... and it doesnt have to be a big dog...... just one that will let you know when someone is around...

It depends on what you mean by well being.

Dogs make for great burglar alarms. It is also a proven fact that petting a dog lowers your blood pressure.

I guess it's what kind of person you are. I've had three dogs that have passed away and always get another within two weeks of their passing. They can't be replaced but having them in your life is wonderful. I love to come home to a pet that loves me and is happy to see me. They are the greatest companions to have. Well, my HUSBAND is the greatest companion, but the pets are a wonderful part of our life.

i would go with a tiger...more protection. however, i believe it is necessary because it keeps us from going insane, if you live alone, and also provides security, no matter what size. The majority of people are afraid of dogs.

Not unless you love dogs and want to take care of one.

Very personal and subjective answer.

However, I would be incomplete with out my canine friend.

I wouldn't think it's necessary, but it may make you feel more secure. I know that my two mutts are great watchdogs, but i'd love them just as much if they weren't.
