I have tried both satellite and cable... And I prefer cable. Probably just because of the little things :P Like the channel would simply be 50 for cable and for sattellite would be 249 or something... Even though it gives the sense that satellite has more channels, you need to get the correct plan to get all of them... And if you don't have the correct plan you'll have the channel but there won't be anything there. That is really annoying when you see something interesting on but you can't watch it...
Also, on stormy days, it can really mess up your satellite connection. I didn't have as much as a problem with cable.
That's pretty much it...

I've had both and I think satellite. My satellite hardly ever goes out unless the weather is bad. My cable use to go out a couple times a month. So annoying..

Apparently, there's a balance here...
Cable is, on the whole, more expensive than Satellite TV. But, the cable picture, and sound, is more reliable in bad weather...
Strange, I know...

I'm a CABLE person.
I don't own the equipment and when it breaks or becomes outdated i simply trade it in. I'd much rather rent things that cost a lot of money than buy them. I have a HD 72" TV and the picture looks great. Actually I own five TV's and they all look great.

For HDTV, satellite is better. I have HD/Digital Cable, and only 22 channels are Hi-Def, the rest digital. I saw a friend of mine with a dish, and he showed me the better resolution & more HD channels on the dish.I might have to switch.
