What does he do, get right on you and beat your *** if you don't have enough money to pay for your train fare? Does he strangle you while snarling and growling at you in your face and then throw you off the train?

I can possibly see some guy from Muscle and Fitness doing that, or even that big heafty guy from the WWE known as Umaga.

(But in all seriousness, what happens if someone suddenly finds out if they're short a few bucks?)

If you can't pay the fare, they are probably going to make you get off the train. They may even give you a criminal citation and make you pay a fine.

A conductor is not going to assault you, but they can have you physically removed from the train if you don't have the proper fare.

If you're short, go find the conductor and tell him right away and offer to get off. He'll tend to be more lenient, and might just let you ride anyway :) Worst case he'll tell you to get off, and if you don't, he'll detain you and call the cops.

On lines that use "proof-of-payment", it's simple: You'll get a citation (like a traffic ticket) for up to $250. Yowch.

Well if they are anything like the conductors that I have to work with, they can't even through Mama from the train. Most are too lazy or too fat to do anything. But seriously, their probably going to ask you to leave at the next station.

Reminds me of the South American Railroad that was sooo rough......

How rough was it?

One day, when a passenger was asked for his ticket, he put it on the armrest and stuck it there with his knife.

The conductor patiently, pulled out the knife, handed it to the passenger, and threw the ticket in the air and punched it with his revolver.
