I asked how I could be more humble to Atheists, and this is one of the responses I got:
"We put up with you and your insane and totally childish credos, so you might take the same approach to us. Read the art of loving by Eric Fromme. Good luck."
I don't even know this guy, nor does he know me.
Stop generalizing.

while it's not very nice - don't forget that you don't know how their day is going AND if they've been "attacked" by people before on the boards - you know my Christians. i'm not saying you were attacking him but he couldbe having a really lousy day and read into your question accordingly.
in regards to the generalizing -- it's done all the time and based purely on a persons perception, their own personal reality. always try to take that into account. while the asnwer might be a little harsh, you did ask and unfortunately, that often bring asnwers that one might not like to hear.
my neighbor is an athiest and we have a good rapport. she doesn't bash me and i don't bash her. she knows i pray for her and when she asks for my opinion, it's Christian based.... she knows that's my life and thusly my asnwers to her questions. i figure if she didn't want to hear it - she wouldn't ask!

Hi Doug... Although it is a very humble hearted jesture to want to have a right heart towards those enslaved by sin.....did you ever consider that maybe that is a question you are asking in the wrong arena? That is something that you should be asking God how to deal with and for the strength and courage to help you have a humble heart and a right attitude towards people of atheism. Try it...you will definately find that asking God for help in a situation like this will prove far more rewarding than asking advice of the "un saved." Hope this helps.
By the way; no it wan't very nice of him to answer like that; but what can you expect from someone who has no love for God? Just try to remember that it is our duty as Christians to love all people and only hate the sin! God Bless you!

Uh, Doug, I just read your question, and I hate to have to be the one to put it this way, but you're being kind of a poser. You're really trying to insult people's intelligence by asking how you can be more humble towards Atheists and then add in the details "It's a tough task these days.. Any advice?" Nice little sneaky jab towards Atheists you threw in there. The person who responded to you didn't have to know you to know that he/she was being insulted. A ten year old could have caught on to that one. Your attempt to make Atheists look bad is just making you look immature and petty.
How would you take it if an Atheist posed such a "humble" question toward Christians and then added "It's a tough task these days.. Any advice? "

You forgot to mention your snide comment after your question "It's a tough task these days."
I would also point out that what ancientcityentertainment said was that we have insane and totally childish credos (from your point of view) as much as you have them from our point of view.
Now if I may make a not very nice generalization, all in all, taking a totally innocent and self deprecating remark and turning it into a cause for holy war seems all to common for some Christians.

Whenever you ask a question like that, you're bound to get answers like the one you did. You might as well paint a target on your back and hand out arrows.
By asking how you can be more humble, it sounds as if you think you're better than someone else. I'm sure you didn't mean it that way, but that's how it comes across.

Someone struggling with such ethical hypocrisies isn't worth worrying about. The fact he would insult you hatefully then offer you a guide to ethics by an atheistic psychologist is telling enough.

You walk into traffic and then complain about the cars?
Strange...
Look, if you ask people a question like that, you're gunna get some strangers who drop by to take advantage of a set-up like that.
Just listen to the people with whom you've ACTUALLY interacted.

Part of the bad things that happen here is really sad. So sorry for what you and some of us have to put up with here.
But we are supposed to love them and hate the sin.
So we pray and hope that God will guide us.

Goes to show you that different people are people first... their religion (or lack thereof) last.
Be wise, altruistic and gentle with all... it'll reap huge rewards for you and is a great thing for others.
