He is acting sad and not playing like he normally does, I am soooo scared. The vomit looks like potted meat. I had a dog that was poisoned once but he threw up blood, so I am hoping that is not it. I live in a small town and the vet is closed until Monday. Does anyone know what it could be?

He always gets his heartworm medication on time, and it is supposed to work on intestinal parasites also.

Your poor dog! Have you been letting him eat grass? Usually dogs vomit after eating grass. This is a way of throwing everything up and making them feel better. Give him good quality dog food and treat him well. I would advise you to take him to the vet just in case. Good luck!

heartworm prevention only protects against a few types of intestinal parasites, so those still could be the culprit

you also could be looking at:

toxin exposure/poisoning (intentional or accidental)
organ failure
intestinal blockage
gastrointestinal foreign body (something trapped in the stomach)
parvo
food sensitivity/irritable bowel
and many more

go see the vet on monday!!

When your dog is vomiting and not acting himself he needs to see a vet asap.

I also live in a small area where there are no 24 hour emergency clinics close by. In these cases calling your vet clinic will give you an after hours number to call. I suggest you do that, this can't wait until Monday.

it sounds to me, that it is probably a stomach, intestines, and possibly esophagus problem. i can not tell you if it is severe or not. i can not tell you if your dog will be ok. but if it is not too serious, he should be fine.
please dont rely on my answer, please see a vet that you trust, and animals life could be in danger.
good luck! i wish you the best, i really do! :)
