A dogs paw is made of a very thick, rind-like calous. When this gets cut, it takes a long time to heal. Sometimes it may take months depending upon the severity of the cut.

It will stop bleeding in a few days but in the mean time, try to keep him off of his paw.

Put a bandage on his foot, get a childrens sock (dollar store is good), put the sock on and tape it up high. Do this just before he goes out, hopefully he will ignore it in his excitement to go out.

Failing that, you can spray the bandage with Bitter Apple (available to the Pet Store). I doubt either will work but it's all worth a try for his health.

If you cannot keep it from bleeding, you may have to get stitches. Try bandaging it again, then put a sock on that leg and tape it higher up his leg, not to tight so it cuts off his circulation. Then spray the whole thing with bitter apple or chili powder, something he wouldn't like or would burn if he chewed on it. Keeping him on a leash until it heals would also be a good idea. Good luck.

It sounds like he has a minor scrap on his paw pad, huh? If it continues to reopen and bleed, you might want to take him in for a quick vet visit.

Chances are they will just wrap it up, and put an E-collar [those collars that look kinda like cones] around the dogs neck so it can not remove the bandage.

If it's serious, stitchs may be required.

You have to go to the vet. If it's that bad, you have to go to the vet. He can probably get a bandage on that your dog can't chew off.

Keep him inside as much as possbile till it heals when he has to go outside, keep him on a short leash until he is done his business then bring him in.

Wash the cut twice a day with soap and put on a little polysporin.

Put up a little doggy gate so he can't run outside, then you may need to clear the snow, since it might be something in it or it's just to cold for him.

If the guy of the homestead shaves, he little question has a "styptic pencil" to quit bleeding if he cuts himself. I heavily doubt in case you prefer a visit to the vet for this, as i've got had many many canine and have nipped the fast in maximum of them. ultimately that is going to quit bleeding, besides the indisputable fact that the subsequent time somebody at your homestead of abode is out procuring, circulate to a puppy save and purchase a container of a product referred to as "Quikstop". this is a yellow powder and is a would desire to in a doggie kin for any important cuts or bleeding. that is going to quit it in the present day. one in each of my collies decrease her pad badly on some ice, years in the past, and that i packed it with quikstop, then wrapped it in vet wrap and it healed with out plenty as a scar.
