I took some over the counter meds the morning of, I think that caused a false positve. The lab told me that's not possible. I told them it's not possible that I have Illegal drugs in my system. Does anyone think the employer would let me take the test again? I think this whole situation is ridiculous. But what can I do to clear my name?

Oh, yeah. Ask if you can take the test again and explain the situation.

Lab results can be messed up by a)staff and b)OTC meds. I would get a copy of the lab report, call your employer and explain and ask for another test and go to your physician, tell him what you took and he/she should know whether or not it can cause a false positive and if necessary, have another test done, making sure you get a copy of the test showing the results. ALSO, YOU MIGHT DO A WEB SEARCH ON WHETHER THE MEDS YOU TOOK CAN SHOW A FALSE POSITIVE in a drug test to be armed with some info and be more educated.

Not only over the counter drugs but something as simple as eating a couple of poppy seed muffin can show a false positive. I would definitely go to another lab and get another test done. Those tests can mess up. When a lab says its not possible they lie.. anything is possible.

Yea, what boneheads. They knew this was coming for months now. If you can't get straight then I don't think you so have that job. There are many people looking for a good job. I have a pretty good job, but I would trade it to work for a NASCAR team any day. And by the way team owners out there, I have never done any drug so I can start first thing in the morning :D

that's why you should NEVER do anything on 2 day window before a drug test that can cause false postitives, clearing up your namesake is a huge hassle and the onus for that lie on you, not the lab nor your employer
i am amazed at the things people do prior to a drug test without doing some sort of reserach to see what will show up in a drug test

Most places will give you another drug test. If they don't offer, tell them that you want one because the test is wrong. It is possible for the tests to be faulty. You didn't take benadryl, did you? I failed a drug test once, had never done any kind of drug, and the only med I had taken was benadryl.

Ask for another test or try one of those at home drug testing kits.they probably sell them at CVS, Walgreen's, etc. Maybe you got second hand smoke if you live or hang out with a heavy smoker, or go someplace that allows smokers a lot ( Bar, restaurant, etc.). It could be mixing of samples or just a false outcome. There are so many spaces for human error. Good luck and God bless!

You can pay and have a drug test done on your own. It is not impossible that samples get mixed up. You may need a lawyer. Have another test done as soon as possible by a different lab.

a little detective work might come up with the answer to the
problem. of course there are always mistakes, although the
ones making them do not like to admit it. i so know that
eating poppy seed rolls, for instance, can cause a false
positive. there are probably other things but that is the one
i know about.

Demand another test or go get one on your own and present the findings to your employer.
