you feel it wouldn't be right to share with just anybody?
Obviously YA has its share of "just anybodies" so I'm not asking for details.
Just looking for more thoughts on why something might be too sacred to share with everybody. Also if there are people you trust with the info, if so what makes them trustworthy, or ready to hear it?
Thanks

no, I don't mean "guilty" I mean things that you hold in high reverence.

Yes. I've only shared it 5 or 6 times in the last 13 years, and would only share it with someone who I felt would respect the gesture of trust I was offering them, even if they didn't agree with the nature of the experience itself.

I guess I don't even understand the concept. To me people can be sacred but not things and I can't imagine experiencing the sacred and not telling people.
When I was an active Episcopalian my diocese supported an African diocese run by a relatively unknown (at the time) Bishop. When visiting the US, I had the opportunity to have dinner with Bishop Tutu. I felt he was sacred, a truly spiritual and holy person.
I am speaking as one who has left the church and considers himself an Atheist but I still think that some people represent so much of what their religion (regardless of what religion it is) holds as it's core ethos that you feel their sacredness.

As a shaman I only share with those who have an open mind, and a basic understanding of the concepts... as a Buddhist there are some concepts that I only share with the same kind of minds... simply because some Buddhist concepts can be hard for some Western thinkers to wrap their mind around, and it's not a BAD thing... just that people are different and there's no sense in causing them suffering if I'm sure they won't benefit or understand.

A lot of people have problems opening up to people. They think that people dont care or that what they have to say isnt important. Or it could be trust or shame issues as you suggested. There are numerous reasons why people donmt share stuff. For example a lot of rape victims are too scared to tell anyone. People are very different to each other! It is hard to know. Interesting question though

By "sacred" do you mean "guilty?"
I'll share any morbid detail of my life with anyone that asks. I'm just human, and I've made good choices and bad ones. But it's all a part of who I am, and I wouldn't be me without every piece of it.
Since I can't deny who I am, and I don't ask forgiveness, I'm not ashamed of anything. Why? What are you guilty of?

I do hold back a lot about my beliefs
because what i " know " may actually hurt others beliefs
and that isnt my intent
so i happily keep it to myself
