not sure how long it's been in the fridge... and it's just generic "alfredo sauce" (not peppercorn or anything like that...) help!

When in doubt, trash it. The black spots are probably mold.
If anything has been cooked and put in the fridge over two days, I always trash it.

Remove the black spots, it is mold, the sauce should be fine,when you heat it you will know with a small taste.

This is generally done is fine dining also. Most people just
don't realize it.

The expiration date is for UNOPENED jars.
The black stuff is mold--throw the whole jar away.
