When in doubt, trash it. The black spots are probably mold.
If anything has been cooked and put in the fridge over two days, I always trash it.

Remove the black spots, it is mold, the sauce should be fine,when you heat it you will know with a small taste.
This is generally done is fine dining also. Most people just
don't realize it.

The expiration date is for UNOPENED jars.
The black stuff is mold--throw the whole jar away.
