I don't coddle her but I've only had her for one day so far....I just don't want to mess her up

hi. I have a timid dog too. She used to be absolutley terrified of everything outside. What I did was I took her favorite treats and put them in to my pocket. I carefully brought her near what made her scared and gradually gave her treats. Eventually she learned it was a good thing to be around the things that once scared her and didn't care anymore. I also encouraged her to get a little bit farther from me each time. I used a soft voice and was gentle. She now doesn't fear what she used to. I hope this helps.

She just be a very scared dog. Try warming her up to the outside world by taking her for car rides. They are always lots of fun for my dogs!

Maybe she would like those purses that they can ride in Keep her close to you for a few than let her down and pick her back up I would think that she will get used to it eventually also she might need some time to get to know you and trust you

Stop reinforcing her shyness by cuddling her. You are only adding to problem. Let her explore things on her own terms, don't force her, and reward her with treats and praise when she does. Remain calm and confident yourself when your dog acts like this, and pay her no attention, don't say Oh its ok, no eye contact, no picking her up.
